nogc prevents the game card reader from being updated when updating from a firmware < 4.0. If that happens, then you won't be to use your game card with a firmware lower than 4.0 (if/when you ever go back to your original FW).

looks like the newest tinfoil can now install dlc

i found devm as an nsp, but a few of the reinx people suggested not to use the nsp version.

no need for devmenu if tinfoil can do it now though.

Sorry for this noob question but how exactly do I run Homebrew? I placed the homebrew.nro file on the root of my sd card and launched the album while holding R but it just brings me to the regular album :/

I tried converting a custom splash image (bmp,RGBA) into a binary file, but the image has the wrong color when I boot ReiNX. Normally I'd use the website I used for Luma for the 3DS, but it doesn't seem to generate any images at the moment :(.

What tools do you guys/girls use to convert a png/bmp to a correct splash.bin file for ReiNX?

Thanks in advance for the help.

use this to convert the image to bin works a treat, there is also a python script floating around.

Thats the dreaded nogc patch.. remove the nogc file and you can use your carts and not have to worry about lag..

On the topic of the nogc file, I noticed the delay coming out of sleep mode from the @Darth Meteos 2.3 stash; but I never saw that particular file in the 'reinx' folder (or anywhere for that matter). Any ideas what could be causing the delay?

I DO see the file in the newly updated 3.0.1 though, which I haven't installed yet.

Rather not stir up any more drama than there is already, but I think it'd be fair to everyone to credit SciresM and naehrwert in here for Atmosphere and Hekate/hwinit respectively.
With that said, it's a nice change of pace to see a simplified CFW solution. Not that it matters from a complete rando like me, but you guys have my thanks for your hard work!

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
