After Xbox's impromptu announcement of its affordable Xbox Series S console, pricing and release dates of its next-gen consoles, Sony is following suit. The console maker has announced that a PlayStation 5 Showcase event will be aired next week:

While not much details was provided regarding the content of this broadcast, we can expect Sony to announce the release date and pricing of the PS5 to follow up Xbox's announcements. Sony can't compete with that price!

Every new generation of PlayStation from Sony has had increased failures for me. I'm on my sixth PS3, and my seventh PSP; with regards to the PSP, it is the first and only example of the handheld i've had that actually has a working UMD drive.

And with the PS4, in spite of all the professed power of the thing, they wouldn't even try to do any form of backwards compatibility on the system itself. Instead wanting you to do like Google Stadia where you pay an access fee and buy games digitally to stream, until they arbitrarily ban your account.

I have zero assumption or expectation that Sony will even offer backward compatibility of any kind with the PS5. Meanwhile, I know there will at least be partial BC on the Xbox, all the way back to the Original console. Sony did me dirty; and I won't suffer a fanboy defending them.

I'm on SSI disability income and even at $500 it would be affordable to me even though I only get $783 a month, and out of that has to come rent, phone, utilities, internet, cat food, cat litter, toiletries, car insurance, gas, etc. etc. How? Because I'm excellent at budgeting and have a pretty good savings.

If it's not affordable to someone it's most likely because they're either under 18, don't have a job, need to work more hours, or are terrible with their money.

You do realize that Sony has already confirmed that PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games and PS4 peripherals right? PS5 will be $499.99 and the digital version will be $399.99. At those prices, people that bought Sony this gen will buy them next gen. PS5 offers over twice the power of Series S, it is worth the extra $100. Plus, Series S max resolution is 1440p, a LOT of televisions do not support that resolution which means most people will be playing at a max resolution of 1080p. You do not get your moneys worth with the Series S.
