The PlayStation Vita is gone, but not forgotten, to Sony, as yet another update has been pushed out for the legacy system. According to initial tests, the firmware doesn't change much at all--it doesn't even patch the Vita's well known h-encore2 exploit, making this new firmware still hackable, though it does seem like the tool used to downgrade your PSV firmware, Modoru has been patched. A new update for the homebrew tool was released, however, bringing Modoru compatibility to 3.73. Since this firmware is still new, you're advised to stay on your current OFW and not update, but at this time, it appears as nothing major has been changed.

Well, from my old QA testing days, every firmware drop cost money and resources, each time it, when it was submitted before public release.

They must be still making money from somewhere, otherwise they would be at a loss.

It shows what great lengths they'll go on protecting, but not actually supporting something they've created. Obviously one is much, much costly than the other - astronomically, even - but it's interesting they're still allocating resources for that after all this time. It's a near vintage system at this point and most, if not nearly all new customers will buy it for the homebrew.

I don't really see the device printing much money for the company after all this time. Even the thought of protecting intellectual property seems diminished when you consider just how much of a dent this must be on Sony's finances.
