Hardware PS3 external hard drive help

My ps3 cfw wont recognize my external hd no matter what I do I tried formatting to ntfs with 1, 1.5 and 2tb partitions scanned for ntfs drives in multiman tried iris man I also tried formatting to fat 32 with the same sizes as above I even bought a new external hd and re tried all the steps I did with my other drive and it still didn't work can someone please help me I have a Seagate and wd drive

Is your drive powered by USB or with an A/C adapter?
The PS3 has pretty poor output over USB, you usually always need an external powered drive.

They are both usb I guess that explains all the trouble I have been having
