I recently bought a pre-hacked PSP off a guy for £70, and it boots up fine when I don't have a memory card inserted.. but then I plugged in my memory card into the PSP and tryed booting up the device, it worked perfectly again, and I formatted the card.

I then put some backups in the form of ISO's on my device and now the device won't boot when the memory card is inserted?

What have I done wrong?

I tried the memory card idea, but the screen went blank when I inserted it.

EDIT - Just tried again, it didn't blank out, got some orange light going on and off, and the device says there isn't a memory card inserted.

It MIGHT be a corrupted memory stick so you may need to reformat.
Try to get confirmation first as I'm not 100%

EDIT: if you have another PSP around, try connecting it to that

EDIT 2: going from your re-edit, I had the same problem and after alot of googling I found out that the memory stick is corrupt, and that I had to replace it, cos it wouldn't respond when connected to anything. I'm not sure if anyone here actually knows if there is a fix for it

I was thinking Pandora'd battery w/ boot procedures on memory stick so it would boot but if it was that it wouldn't boot at all... curious.

Have you tried reformatting?

QUOTE(Rydian @ Feb 1 2011, 09:05 AM) What's your current firmware?
I bolded it in that first quoted post.

That's the way things work in the PSP scene.

EDIT: A more detailed post in case I get posts quoting me saying about the new 'firmwares'.

You can either have;
A) A permanent stable CFW (M33-6) with a plugin (or patch your games) to work with new games.
B) A permanent slightly unstable (GEN-Prom) without the need of patching and plugins but with this you get crappy POPS support and a couple of bugs (saves corrupting when downgrading (heck saves corrupting whenever))
C) Temp-CFW (6.20 or 6.35 (note: 6.35 has even less ISO compatibility than 6.20)) with less ISO/Homebrew compatibility.

The choice is yours.

Sorry for the nooby question.. how do I update / install the firmware?

Erm thats a bit too nooby but anyway.

Pre-requisites:
1)WinRAR
2)Fully charged PSP.

Steps:

1)Download 5.00 m33-6
2)Open it up and extract the UPDATE folder to the PSP->GAME folder in your memory stick.
3)GO to GAME in the XMB and choose memory stick then click on the update.
4)Now download Prometheus
5)Extract it to your desktop
6)Open 5.00_Prometheus folder.
7)Then copy the folder inside it.
6)Paste it in the PSP->GAME folder in your memory stick.
8)Go to GAME in the XMB and choose memory stick then click on the update.

Whew. Thats it. Hope this helped you!

Just follow the softmod sticky, which croagunk seems to not know it's there.

(Tbh it just seems he wants to take all the credit, like before when he said about M33 after Rydian said it)

prwlr, you don't need to be so rude. I know that the softmod sticky is there but I wanted to provide clearer instructions because wildfire95 has just obtained a PSP so he's a total noob in matters related to the PSP. Again, I didn't mean to take credit from Rydian, I just thought that the OP might need clearer instructions.
