As stated in the topic, I would just like to know if it is being worked on so that I know what to do with the Wii U console. It seems that the hype has subsided ever since the kernel 5.11 or something came out. While this is a fairly sensitive topic, I hope it would not lead into another useless and flaming or garbage thread just because of the word "IOSU".

So I hope ONLY REAL Developers who are working on it or somebody who is familiar with or know or work close to the developers could answer this question. If you are not the developers or know nothing about the IOSU or just the current forum users, please do not answer or reply.

As soon as this thread is answer, it could be closed. Thanks!!!!!

Look, i'm going to tell your right now, I don't believe any devs are going to answer this. But from what I've heard the IOSU exploit is completed, but they are not going to release it until Nintendo is done with the WiiU and they release the NX console.

Ya, as much as I hate it, that seems like it is the most likely answer. It makes the most sense from a hacking standpoint, since they won't then have to worry about Nintendo patching it. But I do wish I could get a head start on coding for the Wii U. -sigh-

The 3DS's release date:

The date of the DSi's most recent update:

This update patched exploits used by flashcarts to load unsigned software.
In other words, Nintendo will still be updating their consoles almost 2 years after they're done with them, so this argument is BS.

Not really. I don't deny that a patch is still possible, but look at the systems you are comparing.

Short of the Virtual Boy, the Wii U is Nintendo's worst selling home console to date. Before that it was the Gamecube, which Nintendo dropped like a dirty shirt after releasing LoZ: Twilight Princess. You can't compare support for the Wii U to support for the DSi, which continued to be manufactured until well after the date the final update was provided and is part of Nintendo's iron grip on portable gaming.

I only knew one kid who owned a DSi (other than me), and I knew a lot of kids who owned DSes and DS Lites.
Though I can't deny the other part, as the Wii U isn't doing so well, sadly.

The DSi alone sold nearly 42 million units world wide I believe. That's nearly 4x the amount of Wii U's and their console market has typically outshined handhelds in the past, with the exception of the GBA and GameCube. DSi XL ran on the same OS and was manufactured way way after the last update came out. Don't get me wrong, I honestly am of the opinion that the IOSU should be released as soon as is feasible, but I completely understand the many reasons that the devs may be holding back, and no doubt patches play at least a notable part in that.

imho the IOSU hax will in fact boost remaining Wii U units sales and also games (since every new buyer will buy at least one bundled game). It will boost Nintendo's net revenue as well since they aren't selling Wii U hardware at loss, unlike Sony & Microsoft.

You can code for it already. Other than USB access, you can pretty much do whatever you want. You could write full-fledged apps with about 1GB of available memory. Not sure why you are waiting for an IOSU exploit to start coding.

@brienj: True, I could. But I don't feel like coding for it since a lot of people won't really be using it. Not to mention there's not a ton of libraries or an SDK afaik. Don't get me wrong, the Wii U scene is relatively alive and kicking, but there's no denying it is missing the draw the Wii, PSP or original Xbox had. And that's basically because not many end users want to go through the hassle of fiddle-farting around with tons of set up to launch homebrew every time they want to do anything. An IOSU hack could potentially resolve that issue.

@depaul: that is some very flawed logic. While it is true that Nintendo isn't selling at a loss, they might make $15 off every console sold. Pack-in games make next to no profit either. Traditional or online game sales are what make any game company money, and almost all the homebrew in the Wii U scene is piracy based. Nintendo has never endorsed hacking while they were on top, they're not about to let that go now when it would actually matter.

Naehrwert posted a writeup last month for the <5.2.0 userland IOSU vuln he found, which is hard evidence that at least something has been achieved. With NWPlayer123 and Marionumber1's various hints, there's enough reason to believe that there's another something in progress, so long as they don't jinx it with any kind of even vague promise of a release date.

@CJB10015$ profit for evey WiiU console should be more than enough. Let's be realistic: piracy doesn't harm console (and indirectly games) sales during its lifecycle actually it does boost profits if consoles aren't sold at loss.

Of course it's getting worked on, much like I'm working on winning the lottery. The Wiiu is dead, an ex-console and nobody will be pining much for it. The only worthwhile game to come is Zelda and I'm assuming nearly everyone will get the NX/Zelda package.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
