Hacking [Release] God of War Collection - Remastered Videos Mod

Ive always wanted to play the God of War Collection on Vita, but the cutscenes always took me out of it. It was extremely annoying that the videos were not sized properly.

Ive taken steps to remedy that.

I have source the Original copies of the cutscenes and have resampled them into the correct vita resolution. The QUality Is Byfar superior to the original versions, but are abit larger in file size. There is 2 versions of the videos a 300kbps Version for People who want to keep their content size down, and a 450kbps version for people who want a High quality experience. Ive also replaced the multi-ligual videos with dummy files, but you can download them seperately if you intend to play in a different language.

Guide
*Unfortunately you do need to dump your game (I will see if adding the files to the update folder is possible)

1. Locate your GOW folder in the "ux0:app" folder (for me its PCSF00438)

2. Go to the Directory "exec" and delete the _movies folder

3. Move the folder _movies from the archive into the exec directory

4. All Done

Quick Update, Ive have put the GOW2 Videos on hold, Turns out the original videos (the PS2 and PS3 HS Version use the same video), produce a much nicer result, I am re-render all the gow1 videos with the new videos.

I made a 300 and 450 kbps version so people who are concerned about space, and those that want a hq experience.
As before I made dummy versions of the international variant videos, if you are playing in a different language, download the corresponding international Files.

PS Unfortunatly I did make an interesting discoverey, the videos are rendered in the same lower resolution as the games, so I will be making a "Native" resolution video package aswell, no point wasting a couple of hundred pixels that we arent using, so expect a new version in a couple of days. ALthough I will leave these versions up incase I figure out a way to unencode the games and figure out where the viewport size it stored.

Just a problem, the multi lingual pack is not working in any language besides english, both versions, it's rare because the video plays flawlessly, but no sound
PS: I do use the multilingual pack, just for sure

followed the directions, replaced _movies folder in exec now it just skips the movies complety in game?

For anyone having trouble installing this, you don't need to dump anything!
Just use rePatch!

Simply make a new path:
USA: sd:\Repatch\PCSA00126\exec
EU: sd:\Repatch\PCSF00438\exec

And copy the '_movies' folder in there!

USA players will need to rename: sd:\Repatch\PCSA00126\exec\_movies\PSP2\gow1\SCEE
Change SCEE folder to SCEA. (thanks for the tip mpafighter)

The advantage to this method is, it will work on the official cartridge, a PSN download, or a cart dump!

And yes, this plays fine with VitaGrafix!
So the videos should play at full resolution! (960x544)

Can confirm this works. As mentioned, you need to have this:
ux0:repatch/PCSA00126/exec/

place the '_movies' Folder in this Directory. That is all.
Once you start the Game, and you get to a Video, it will now be Full Screen Resolution instead of 4x3.
Not sure if it helped, but I ran the rePatchAIDS App, just in case.
Videos look MUCH better

Hate to bring back an older thread, but while looking into using this mod myself I found a few posts on reddit that mentioned a few issues with this mod. Megatallica did an awesome job with these modded videos, and after editing a few myself I have to say he likely spent many hours working on them. Thank you Megatallica!

as for the few issues-

1. In GoW 1 there's a scene where Kratos sacrifices a soldier/zombie. The European release was censored to make it one of the zombie things you fight. in the U.S. release, it was a roman soldier guy. This video mod uses the European scene, and for U.S. players it can be a bit jarring going from soldier to zombie and back again.
2. In GoW 1, in the scene where Ares impales Kratos from afar near the end of the game, before entering Hades, the audio is from a different much shorter scene. It's wrong until it cuts out and then you watch the video in silence. It's reported this is an issue will all of megatalica's versions of this one video.
3. In GoW 2, when Kratos fines Persius, the audio for the first Pegasus flying scene is played instead. Again, all versions (300 and 450Kbps) are affected.

I have found the program used to edit these videos (RAD game tools, for "bink" video format) and fixed issues 2 and 3. As for issue 1, I'm not sure I'll be able to find and upack the PS3 release of the game in order to access a high quality version of the American scene. I do plan to keep investigating.

I'll be uploading my fixes for issue 2 and 3 later today or tomorrow. That said, I had already beat GoW 1 before finding out about this mod, and don't really want to play the whole game again to get to some of the scenes with issues. I was hoping to maybe find someone with saves at various points in the game to test these, or to send me their saves for GoW1. I am almost to the point of Persius in GoW2 and will be able to make a save for testing that part myself.

EDIT: unfortunately, my fix for #3 did not work. the video plays fine with audio using the video tool, but on the vita I get no audio. I have a save right before the scene, so I'll be able to continue working on these and update when/if I have some progress.
