Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games are collaborating on a AAA game and a "smaller-scale" game

According to yesterday's GameIndustry.biz report, the developers behind Control are working on two new games in collaboration with Epic Games. Not much is known about those titles other than one is a AAA game whose production is expected to start in Spring 2021. The title is said to be a smaller-scale game that is already in full production. Nearly 100 people are working on those game and both are being developed for console and PC release.

In the report, Tero Virtala, Remedy Entertainment's CEO, notes that both games are based on Remedy's own game IP and that the studio will retain those IP rights. For its share, Epic is handling development costs and marketing and revenues will be shared evenly between the two companies.

The report also notes that despite not releasing any new games in 2020, that year was their best yet, and made more than double the money they made in 2019.

They can name the result an "Epic Remedy" coalition. :creep:

...yeah, I know: everyone and their mum saw that coming a mile away. But I'm still the first one on the internet calling it as such.

On gbatemp, at least

The "smaller scale" game thing has me intrigued.

Quite often we see all manner of other creatives say something like "I will do your blockbuster/biography/portrait/stadium filler but you will fund my passion project". I wonder if that is then the equivalent but for games.

Don't care; immediate turn-off. They could've easily had a fantastic reputation, by having a fully-functional storefront/launcher and by not stealing games and making them exclusives, but that's not what happened.

Are PC exclusives in this manner really that troublesome and also he what funds the work usually gets to dictate terms of its release... kind of how most such things work... pretty much since ancient times where people were commissioned to write epic poems or build statues by the rich.

Regarding exclusivity, not in this case since they helped fund the game - but past transgressions (Metro, Shenmue 3, and many more) have earned them my revulsion. As a result, I now avoid anything Epic-related, since they're parasitic bastards.
