I just remembered this fan game that was released over a decade ago called Sonic Rebirth which was essentially a fan remake of Sonic 1 with updated visuals and added a few cutscenes and the SMS levels as a bonus...
I remember it played decently, it wasn’t 1:1 to the original (I remember a glitch if you pushed through a breakable wall you slowly slide through) what’s weird is the game was taken down permanently after SAGE of that year, not sure why, I believe I still have it somewhere in my old hard drive though...
Of course being an old fan game, finding footage online is kinda tricky, but luckily this guy seems to have it
I was wondering if someone could rip these sprites and make a mod for Sonic The Hedgehog 2013 would be neat.
Edit: It’s more of a suggestion than a request tbh, I feel those sprites look really good and is a waste to not be unused.
