RiiFS Tutorial
If you don't know what RiiFS is, it's a server program made to host files on a PC instead from an SD card in Riivolution.
More details in here.
Now, this tutorial will tell you how to setup your own private RiiFS server, then we can move on to public.
1. Go and download RiiFS.exe.
2. Now place RiiFS in a empty folder
3. Make an apps folder and put your apps/riivolution folder from your SD card to (insert RiiFS directory)/apps/
4. Now copy your pack's files and Riivolution XMLs. (riivolution/config/(id4).xml IS NEEDED.)
5. Now run RiiFS then boot Riivolution. If everything is there, Riivolution should detect the presence of RiiFS and use those files, espeically if you don't have your SD card plugged into your Wii.
But now, you may say. "But what if I want my friends and such to use my server?"
Don't worry, we got you covered.
BUT BEFORE YOU TRY TO MAKE YOUR RIIFS SERVER PUBLIC, MAKE SURE TO PORTFOWARD PORT 1137 1ST, OR ELSE IT WILL NOT WORK.
But anyways, let's get right in!
1. You will need to make a RiiFS XML.
In the "address=" part, go to a site like this and copy the public ipv4 address and put it in the XML right after the "address=" part.
2. Now tell the receiver to put the XML into SD:/riivolution/ like any other XML and the XML should point Riivolution to your server when Riivo boots.
3. If you detect the (public) IP of the receiver is asking for files in the console log. That means it worked!
Congratz! Now you and your friend can play the same riivolution files together as long as the RiiFS.exe program is running.
And that's it guys. Sorry for making a tutorial for something obscure.
For the advantages that RiiFS have over SD, you can modify files and maybe even XMLs during gameplay. Super useful for testing.
Hope all of you guys helped out, Fancy signing out.
Changelog:
2.0: Methods thing are gone, now separated between private and public.
