RPCS3 founder gives new update on PlayStation 4 emulator RPCS4

DH, the founder of the popular PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3, has given an update on his new project today via the official RPCS3 Twitter account. The Tweet shows a small progress update on RPCS4, a PlayStation 4 emulator. According to the Tweet, DH has not worked on RPCS3 since 2016 and his new team has no overlap with the RPCS3 team, meaning it shouldn't halt development on that emulator. RPCS4 is still early enough in development that it doesn't have a website yet, and in another Tweet, the RPCS3 devs denounce the RPCS4.com website as "fake," and tell users "do not fall for scams." RPCS4 should also not be confused with PCSX4, another well-known fake PlayStation 4 emulator.

This announcement comes only a week following the revival of Spine, another PlayStation 4 emulator on Linux that is showing serious promise. While RPCS3 is by far the most popular PlayStation 3 emulator, the early arrival of Spine onto the scene may give RPCS4 a bit more competition.

I hope they port this to switch.
There is no chance a emulated PS4 game will run well on Switch. It would be a struggle to get it to run normally, never mind with the overhead that comes with emulation. Even if it was ported, you would get a poor framerate. Maybe something like 10 FPS at best?

The Switch is simply not powerful enough.

I'm pretty sure they were just joking.

I think that 10fps would be totally worth it for a laugh.

I wrote an 8080 emulator for the c64, you get about 1/14th of the speed for the equivalent clock & I was happy with that.

It will be interesting to see if they produce a native port for the new Macs, or make it as an x64 app.

Hopefully RPCS4 developers are not full blown elitists like RPCS3 ones that left behind older machines and don't want to implement hack solutions just because they don't understand how they work. I'm refferring to the pausing thread hack, I play on a 4 core CPU and never had a crash and the performance boost is great, tried on a 12 thread laptop it lowered the fan noise and heat, RPCS3 is like developed by Nintendo.

Could have picked a friendlier name for this new ps4 emu, doesn't quite roll off easily, rpc4 or pcr4 or pcrxs4, or some combo of. Look at the other emu names - spine, duckstation, yuzu. All daft names but remember-able, with nice logos. Could have gone with dogstation or fourplay or something like that.
Author says project is actively connected to team RPCS3 but still piggybacking of their prefix.
