SNES Tracker has just had its first ever public release! SNES Tracker seems to be the only actively developed open source SNES music tool around. More info here:

https://bazz1.com/snes-tracker-new-release/
http:// www.snestracker.com

This software is totally free and open source (can be downloaded and compiled from github), and the author Bazz is also offering pre-built binaries for his Patreon supporters, usually a month before any new code hits github.

i think its pretty interesting looking. (im not willing to buy it to try it lol) but i think a better interface maybe with some easier to understand design would be good because while i understand some of whats going on i cant figure everything out. still pretty cool.

Older binaries are now available on github:
https://github.com/bazzinotti/snestracker/releases

...and they are updated monthly (you don't have to "buy" to try it). However, Patron supporters get newer versions sooner (1 month sooner I think). Join the Discord, people there including myself and the author will be happy to help if you get stuck using it. I've been using pre-release version of this for a few weeks now... everything works.. I like it a lot. A new UI has been designed but not implemented yet. Yes it looks very basic in the UI at the moment.. but everything works and I find there are no blatant annoyances that make me want to stop using it, unlike some other older music tools. The author Bazz has been actively taking feedback from users on Discord so I can only imagine the app will get better and better.

Its functional, I've made songs with it.

Press space bar to enter edit mode then you can place notes. Or did you get stuck doing something else?

Just pretty buggy overall, but after messing again, I figured it out a bit better now.
I'm definitely not unfamiliar with trackers btw :D

I just failed to read the manual the first time but I managed to find some instruments and try some test tune.
For some reason the tracker runs way too fast and the brr files I first tried just did not work, but I managed to get some instruments from the Github so I'm good for now.
Also unless I'm doing it wrong it seems like there's no effect/volume commands available yet? I see all the slots on pattern but everything I tried doesn't seem to do anything. I can only add and delete notes.

I was kind of lazy so I just ported one of my Famitracker ideas as a test.
Took a bit more work than I thought due to how unstable it was for me, but then again it's still in its infancy so I can understand that.

Sadly the result is pretty mediocre due to the fact that the program crashed at least twice, and I have no way to actually put the effects I had in mind (like volume and vibrato).
Other than that the 2 patterns I did manage to do seem to export as .spc as expected.

So I can't wait for more to come!

@VinsCool sorry to hear about the crash. There's a known issue where the program can hang temporarily if you try to preview notes using midi input very quickly (or place too many notes in very quick succession?). This has happened to me a few times but the program always comes back to life after about 8 seconds.. i.e. its never crashed and died, for me at least. This is a known issue that's being looked into to isolate the exact cause.

What do you mean by running fast? You can set the speed of the song BPM. BRRs may sound fast if you are using the wrong pitch/octave - use the f-keys to change octave then place notes again? Samples can sound terrible and sometimes even unrecognisable when played at the wrong pitch. Also, the ADSR Instrument settings you specify will hugely affect the sound.

As for non-working BRRs, addmusicM / c700 compatibility was added in v0.1.1. If you still have problems after that, please open a github bug issue and attach your offending BRR.

Click on the "Instrument editor" button and you can change instrument volume and echo settings. I think this is available from v0.1.1. onwards. Echo params can be set under "Song settings" button. Vibrato is not implemented.. yet!

SNES Tracker gets better with every release so don't give up.
