Gaming Specs for my new computer

so yeah, I have been wanting a new computer for a while, and I'm saving up heavily for one. I have this idea for one, what do you think?

I'd be putting XP Pro on it as the OS.
along with this I'd also get myself a 24" LCD Samsung monitor. My total would come to about $1,300. Not to bad, right?

I recommend getting a quad core, the Intel C2Q Q6600 is the best option and its only £120, so about $240 is you do an "average" conversion.

Also get a 4870X2, the X2 beats nvidia's best card the 280 and is alot cheaper, in tests it was anywhere between 8% to 34% better in terms of its performance. If you can't stretch to a 4870x2 just get the 4870 its still far better then the 8800GT.

For a Hard Drive I recommend a Samsung Spinpoint, currently the fastest hard drive I have used aswell as in tests. (Yes the Raptor is faster but only at access times and who cares about access times, if its slow and moving data around whats the use of being able to get to it quickly.)

Unless he has money growing on trees, your advice is useless.
Also, after price drops from nVidia, the GTX 280 is cheaper than the HD 4870 X2.

I'd upgrade from a E6850 o an E8200/E7200. The new wolfdale cores are totally worth it.
The motherboard is a bit sucky. The p35/p45/G31 from Intel are much better.
As for the graphics card, upgrade it to the new 9800GT. Its just a slightly upgraded 8800GT (smaller size, higher clock, cooler temp etc.) and sometimes as cheap (or even cheaper!) than the 8800GT. But I say ditch nVidia altogether and go for the HD4850. Its slightly more expensive than the 8800/9800GT but its performance is on par with the 9800GTX.

I'm a bit concerned you didn't put in the brand of the PSU. If its just a generic PSu I say avoid it completely. Its best to pay a little bit extra for a good PSU. Most PC problems come from a bad PSU.
PC Power & Cooling do great PSU's and so do Antec. 500W is recommended for total stability but you could probably go as low as 400.
