Star Wars Episode 1: Racer faces a delay a day prior to its release date

SWracer.jpg

Those that had their heart set on playing the remaster of Star Wars Episode 1: Racer on launch have suddenly found that they won't get the chance to experience it, just yet. AspyrMedia, the publisher in charge of bringing the game to both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch have announced that they will not be able to make the release date, which was supposed to be on today, May 12th. The delay stems from difficulties surrounding development due to the current work at home mandate across the globe, according to the company. A new release date was not provided. Star Wars Episode 1: Racer originally released in 1999, for the Game Boy Color, PC, and Nintendo 64, followed by a Dreamcast version a year later.

Ah yeah forgot the n64 version had this and it sounds fun but still, it's the worst version graphically speaking...

Better graphics don't ever mean a better game you know?

Gaming industry has sold the idea that a game with better graphics is a better game than one that has average graphics, but that's not true. It's just about making remakes/remasters/re-whatever, to re-sell the same game again, and again, and again, and again, and nothing more.
There are a lot of indie games way more fun to play than most first party games, and they don't have "better graphics", they're just better games to play, period.

Will it at least get remastered? Oris it just a simple "up-rez and port" port?

See? Just what I've said.

I know perfectly well that good graphism don't mean a good game but in our case we're talking about a game that we already know is good, therefore the idea is to have the best experience playing it and choosing the version that has the best graphisms sounds like a rational choice, i'm not advocating for a remaster tho, I think the game is good as is, many other oldies of the Star Wars franchise could benefit more from a remaster imo, games like the older Jedi Knight iterations for example...

Well the N64 versions supports the 4MB Expansion Pak, which does make the graphics look better (for a N64 game at least). The Dreamcast is better, but it doesn't feel likes it pushing what the Dreamcast could do. Using VGA, the game looks really good.

Now that this came to the table, does anyone know if the PC version supports using a double analog stick controller to play so to "emulate" the way we could play it on the N64 (using two analog sticks at the same time)?

No, it doesn't let you control the game the same way as dual N64 controllers did, you'll have to stick with the N64 version (or the arcade cabinet :P) for that unfortunately.

No idea if the port to consoles will, though, it's possible Aspyr might include that control scheme with the PS4/Switch release.

That is a remaster
Depending on who you ask, a remaster could just be a lazy port that isn't much better than running the original in an emulator at high-res...

But it could also mean something more akin to a complete remake with brand new textures and whatnot....

That or somewhere in between

If all they did was take the original game and make it run at a higher resolution without improving any textures, videos, or sounds, that's not a remaster or a remake, that's a port...

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."
