Steam walks back decision to ban visual novel after fan outcry, Chaos;Head Noah now available

dsaasd.png

Less than a week before the game's launch, Spike Chunsoft canceled the PC version of Chaos;Head Noah, a visual novel that fans had been waiting years to see translated. This was due to Steam determining that the game needed "guideline-required changes", which Spike Chunsoft refused, as they believed it would result in a subpar release of the game. Now, the apparent fan outcry of the cancellation got Steam's attention, as Valve has decided to re-examine Chaos;Head Noah and allow its release on Steam, a complete turnaround from its original stance. Valve also stated that they'll be looking into why this happened, and have "made some changes to avoid situations like this in the future".

Chaos;Head Noah is now available on Steam, as originally scheduled, with a price point of $24.99, alongside the Nintendo Switch port of the game, which was released with no issue.

Kudos to Valve for coming to their senses. I can't recall the last time I saw a content decision walked back.

If by ‘no issue’ you mean ‘a crash that prevents the player from viewing the true ending’ or ‘a localization that can’t keep its own terminology straight, much less any shared terminology with other games’, then yes, it was released on the Switch with no issue. Unsure if the Steam port suffers the same crash problem, but the garbage localization is still there.

The Steam port is just as bad, but obviously fans are on their way to fix it. A proper translation will be released at the end of October, also restoring the censored content and fixing the true ending crash

Supposedly there's some Valve employees that take a hard stance against anything sexualized in the high school settings that are very common in Japanese media. Since the setting is generally signaling loud and clear that the characters are under 18. So quite a few Japanese VNs have been running afoul of Valve's banhammer.

excellent! not my kinda game, but I'm not a fan of missplaced moral outrage over animated sexual content (assuming that's why).

great yet another lame AF sex visual novel clogging up the store

Honestly, that's more understandable. I guess the problem is that once you take a moral stance on something, you're scrutizined for not taking a stance on other things. Tough call.

There doesn't seem to be any logic as to what games Valve would consider to be okay to put on Steam. Think it's down to luck on which Valve employee is vetting the game.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with this game on Steam. Should be up to the individual to decide whether or not they buy a game.
