I cant get my pen drives to work either. They are old Sandisk USB 2.0 4GB flash drives. I formatted 1 to FAT32 and the other to ExFAT tried all the ports.

Nah I'm on 6.0 and exact same issues. Only pen drives work

What kind of HDD do you have? out of curiosity.

I have a powered Seagate 2tb usb 3.0, and a powered WD old 1tb usb 2.0 thing and both don't work. But like I said the cheap pen drives work fine
Things I've tried for the externals:
Y cable
Formatting to fat 32 and exfat in windows and mini partition tool
Tried a powered usb hub
Tried setting smaller partitions
Tried games in folders and on root of drive
Tried a clean sd card

The switch picks up the drive because it starts scanning but the game icons ( games on the sd) flashes on and off like yours does then eventually it's just the background with scanning down the bottom right corner and all the other options at the top.

Dude I literally had this same issue like about 2hrs ago after installing latest sxos beta.
It showed games then flashed with a never ending scan.

I ended up setting up my HDD like this USB>sxos>xci>games go here
and that fixed my issue 100%

Just to tell you that the SX OS 2.2.1 solved my problem!!

I try the new version 2.2.1 and I reformatted my 3 TB hdd in exfat gpt and sxos is still scanning forever without showing any xci file in the root folder or \sxos\xci folder
I guess my hdd is just not compatible even if it work perfectly on all my other device I connect it
I don't understand why it seem all easy for everyone but I cannot make it work

I have the same problem with different HDDs/ SSDs/ SD Cards + Adapter.
Made sure all are formated as exFat (usually i use 64kb but tried all other options as well) and made sure they are mbr and not gpt.
Sizes are between 120gb and 500gb and i just cant get it to work.
Rarely i can see a NSP flashing for a second but thats all i can see (harddrive indicator reacts like things are loaded).
All drives are completly fine otherwise.
Is there some kind of magic i missed?

I try Five different hdd with exfat . They all worked .
Two 4TB 5TB 6TB and 8TB . All worked good

Could you please give more information about your system and your HDD? I would like to compile a list of what works. For the Switch what Sys version? SXOS version? Maybe if it was a launch switch (IDK if that matters) For the HDD, could you please list their Make and Model? Allocation table size? What program you used to format it? Mac,Win, Linux? If they are self powered or through AC? Y cable? USB 2 or 3? ANY OTHER DETAILS THAT MIGHT MATTER. I so want to figure this out. Then maybe we can see a pattern or if it's just the ghost i the machine.'

These seem to be variables that affect the outcome.

I see a lot of posts on IT WORKED or IT DIDN'T WORK!! but rarely do they mention all of these details. I would hate to assume any of these things. Devil is in the details. Anyone else contributing to this thread please list these things. Maybe ill make a spreadsheet if I have time. Let's figure it out.

Almost forgot.

My stuff

Switch: Launch switch updated from 1.0 to System version 3.0 through the System Options, so I could use PegaSwitch. Used PegaSwitch like 3 times. Then updated 3.0.1,by accident legit through Super Mario Odyssey cart (DOH!!!) with fuses currently at 3.0.1, SX OS 2.2.1 BETA. No EmuNAND

HDD 1: WD Elemental 2TB GPT ExFAT formatted in Windows Disk Management. (Default allocation size ?) USB 3.0 powered through USB. Stock cable - WONT STOP SCANNING/FLASHING FILENAME
HDD 2: My Book 1TB Formatted with GUI formatter FAT32 (ModMii originally for my Wii) (Default Forget the Cluster size) AC ADAPTER power .USB 2.0 Monster Cable -WONT STOP SCANNING/FLASHING FILENAME
HDD 3: WD Passport 300GB FAT32 Formatter in Win through GUI formatter (from ModMii) (Default cluster) USB Powered Monster cable USB 2.0 - WONT STOP SCANNING/FLASHING FILENAME

Flash Drives: 2x Kingston 4GB (came in 2-pack) One FAT32 one Ex-fat formatted in Windows Disk Management Default Allocation size, DON'T REGISTER AT ALL. SXOS DOESN'T"T SEE IT

I have tried several different games. Personal dumps. BBB dumps. They all work from SD. All the HDD?Flash drives work in everything else. I am sorry to leave missing info. Mainly allocation sizes. I will update soon, when I can, with the correct sizes. USB ports seem fine. I tested them with Amperage on my Android and they charge the Pro controller fine as well.

I hope everyone else follows suit and posts these details about their drives and systems. Maybe we can nail this down and find a winning combination.

There still isn't all the information I want. I don't see it. I see some things thrown about that didn't work for me.. I tried NOTHING on the drives except a ROM, I tried lots of formatting options too. I put the ROM in to /SXOS. Then I tried again with the ROM in SXOS/XCI. All the same result. Even tried a fresh SD with only SXOS files on it in case some stray file did it.. Same result. What did that thread have to do with anything? I want to address the HDD issue specifically not sit there and listen to peoples opinion on SX OS. So again. Please let me know the information on the drives best you know. And anyone else contributing I appreciate it. Any other pertinent information I forgot would be great too. Let's figure it out.

I could copy and paste my posts over to that thread if that would be better. People's level of detail is poor. I think we're missing something. At least see if it's consistent.

This is extremely irritating now. I've literally tried every combination out there. I think just some drives don't work. What we need is a Google spreadsheet, maybe?

Please List your information. What have you tried? What EXACTLY happened? If you want to build a spreadsheet I would love it. I listed every detail I have seen being an issue.

Any update on this? I’m on the same issue:

OFW: 5.1.0
CFW: SXOS V2.2.1beta
External USB 3.0 Hard Drive Intenso 6TB (external powered)

I get the xci roms on the sd flashing and the scanning spinner for 30 seconds, then no roms are shown, just the spinner spinning forever.

I’ve tried fat32 6tb, exfat 6tb, exfat 2tb with 4tb unallocated.

The nsp file is located on /sxos/nsp

The hd works well on windows and mac.

I’ve just tried a 1TB WD usb drive (self powered) and it works. So the usb port isn’t fried.

I’m using the same sd card for both tests, so there are no conflicts with the content on the sd card.

(Looks like even after the 2.2.1beta update there’s still much work pending to have this feature ready)

Do u have any nsp files in sxos/nsp/ folder?
Do u have any homemade nsp to xci files on ur drive?

I only have xci files no nsp in the sxos/nsp folder
I only have official xci dump no homemade nsp to xci file

since team executer said they support disk as big as 1 petabyte, I don't think the mbr partition is still require, because we would nt be able to use large file with this type of partition

I fixed it! My HDD never worked and ChoiDujourNX kept leaving me in a bootloop, this fixed both issues.
  1. Backup saves with Checkpoint
  2. Backup SD
  3. Put Kosmos and a fresh Download of 5.1 on my 4 GB SD
  4. Boot in to hekate and remove AutoRCM.(I was on 3.0.1 and so were my fuses so meh. Not sure if necessary but I couldn't get in to maintenance mode without disabling AutoRCM for some reason.
  5. Boot in to Maintenance mode
  6. choose to initialize without deleting saves and profile.(maybe backing up saves was pointless?)
  7. boot in to hekate--.HBL-->ChoiDuJour->install 5.1
Now my HDD and ChoiDuJour both work!!

so you don't use SX OS then? Cause I'm on 6.0.1 with 2.2.1 SX OS, and its not working.
