Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask you guys if there is any risk of breaking the USB C Port of the Switch when using the following flash drive: https://www.kingston.com/en/usb/personal_business/dtduo3c
Someone on this forun warned about using flash drives or in that particular matter every drive that does not come with an external power supply since it could lead to a fried USB C port which
would pretty much make the Switch useless. Is there any reason to worry or should it be fine?

As always any help is greatly appreciated - thanks Guys!

I don't think so, you can't run games from external hdd, so for me its pointless ATM.plus you need to install games on system memory or sd card.
use the external hdd docked.

You can load XCI's from HDD thus the reason he's asking. It seems to work with non powered HDD's but we don't have definite answers on how safe it is.

Thanks for your answers. The reason I am asking is because it would be very convenient to install NSP's to the sd card or internal storage with such a device. The only thing that bothers me
is the question if it is safe to use.

Yes it is. They might (and most likely will) run slower than your sdcard and your internal NAND, but they do work great.
They run just as fast if you connect the HDD to the usb3 on the back of the dock. At least I can't tell the difference in speed if any.

PD compatible devices won't hurt the Switch at all, that's why Anker PD power bank is now officially supported. I've been testing ~10 different usb type C 3.0 hubs and hdmi adapters from different brands to no-name brands. None of them could brick my Switch. Surprisingly, the HDMI output function of no-name hdmi adapters work perfectly even with HDD loading.

The only one and known device that could brick your Switch is the Nyko dock.

Anyway, all 2.5" external HDDs (even with none Y-usb cable) and SSD/flash USB won't cause any damage at all to your Switch.

Cheers.

what's the purpose of a 3.0 port if it doesn't support 3.0 speeds?
either way I see no difference in speed.

Surprisingly, connecting to USB 3.0 port from the dock won't make any difference. Game loading on HDD is about 30% slower than Sandisk Ultra mSD U1. However, all games I have tested are playable without any lagging or fps dropping issue.

what software did you use to test loading speeds? Or are you just pulling numbers out of your a...bottom?

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."
