It's a bribe because he isn't in the legal position to be able to do that. GPLv3 violation.
That would be the best argument for it. But still I think the word bribe holds a different meaning.
Sure it is a questionable proposal.
If it were giving money to a person on a position of power, to make him decide something making abuse of his power, not really concerning this person doing actual work to sell, but selling the possibility to use a "power" he controls but is not his property, I would call it bribery. E.g. bribing a judge, bribing a politician, bribing a policeman (in all those cases you're "renting" their usage of a power that is not theirs but belongs to the state).
In this case his power to use his time in whatever he sees better is his, not borrowed.

Hmmm... anyway, fishy stuff.

PS: I also think paying programmers to modify or improve "borrowed" code is not bribing, but it is questionable and the end product is illegal.

That's literally a bribe

bribe
brīb/
verb
verb: bribe; 3rd person present: bribes; past tense: bribed; past participle: bribed; gerund or present participle: bribing

1.persuade (someone) to act in one's favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of money or other inducement.

Your ignorance doesn't change what a bribe is.

So me giving a guy a cut to rob a bank with me is a bribe? Fuck outta here!

let me copy paste again

This is what you said
'' Paying someone to do something illegal isn't a bribe ''

This is the definition of bribe
bribe
(braɪb)
vb
to promise, offer, or give something, usually money, to (a person) to procure services or gain influence, esp illegally

That's actually an example that can go into several different legal territories, but an example of a bribe from such a situation is to pay someone to keep quiet about a bank robbery.

m4xw says he was told to stop working on the open source version of retroarch and instead only make it for TX, therefore unfairly benefiting TX, as libretro/retroarch isn't bound to a specific CFW by default.
So I'm just suppose to take his word for it? Thays not proof.

I must say the obvious, no matter if it makes me look like an idiot.

That dictionary definition is incomplete.
It does not match common usage. It misses something there.
(and I think it is related to "renting" borrowed power / abuse of power)

So when you hire a hitman, do you get charged with murder or bribery? Asking for a friend.

I got it from here where it has multiple meanings.
https://www.thefreedictionary.com/bribe
Now ofcourse people are gonna disregard the part where it says ''especially'' meaning not only goverment officials but they're gonna linger on that part '' goverment officials'' while disregarding the '' especially'' part

Can you specify either, a.) what you think a bribe is, or b.) specify what you would consider proof? All you're going to get is snippets of a conversation, because (from what I gather), a conversation is as far as it got. It's not hearsay if you're recalling a conversation, of which you were the first party to.

M4XW > TX
With this I agree.
Even though I think the word "bribe" is being used in a weird/wrong way on this thread, I commend what m4xw did, that is not follow the greed and think what's better for the community.
I am not sure that if that is the best for him, but that is generous.

It's entirely hearsay as you can say anybody said anything on the internet. Not to mention the Anti-TX stance a small group of members here seem to have. All we're asking for is definitive proof. M4xw is a very credible person, so a screenshot of the conversation would go miles and honestly shut us all up. The lovely "quote" we got isn't enough as it isn't defining a source. Just text.

Someone typing out a paragraph of what someone supposedly said isn't proof. A proof would be a screenshot of the actual conversation.

If he would post a screenshot, you would call it fabricated.

If he send you the raw text, you would say he made it up.
