The Kingdom Hearts games are headed to the Nintendo Switch through cloud streaming

kingdom-hearts-1-scaled.jpg

Announced today alongside the final character reveal for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was that Kingdom Hearts is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Three titles will be available, letting you catch up on all the series lore: Kingdom Hearts I.5+II.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts II.8, and Kingdom Hearts III. These games will utilize cloud streaming to be playable on the Switch, rather than be straight up ports to the console. No release date was given.

Man I really think cloud gaming could take off on the Switch if Nintendo had a unified platform for it. Nintendo Cloud Arcade or something, where you could buy universal credits to be used on any game, in oppose to buying time to play one specific game.

I'd actually be really interested in something like that.
I have yet to buy any of these yet so maybe I'm missing something here but do other regions have diffrent payment methods for the games? cause as far as I've seen you basically just buy the game and can just play from there
woo boy is my commitment to do my proud mode play through on the switch whenever it comes to the switch going to be a blast with chances for random blips of lag '_>'

Another cloud streaming game:hateit:.
I would have bought a port, but cloud gaming sucks. When they shutdown the servers in a few years your money will have gone to waste and knowing me I won't have finished the game by then.

Cloud Gaming doesn't even work that great with a desktop with very good wired gigabit home internet

how the FUCK is it supposed to work on the Switch's garbage wifi?? this is ridiculous

and also, my earlier post: 0.2 and KH3 would work just fine if they ported it properly. might have some tradeoffs, but other Unreal Engine 4 games have been done on Switch

ridiculous

Hell no. Why should I pay money for something I can't even download to an SD card or SSD only to have it disappear? I'd rather get Sonic Colors on Switch than pay for glorified Netflix gaming.

This is the same dumbass company who put their FF Pixel Remastered games on PC/Android and not consoles. Putting a game on a streaming server is such laziness.

No i mean would you have even bought the games if they weren't cloud based

Just another money grab.
No reason at all to play these games on Switch.

Besides, Kingdom Hearts is a franchise where the storyline goes in every direction but forward.

The Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 collection came from the PS3 (and as far as I know it only has the PS2, PSP and DS games), it certainly wouldn't be a problem for the Switch.

But 2.8 (which includes 0.2) and 3 would certainly be difficult to port to Switch, many games that run on Unreal Engine 4 suffer huge downgrades on Switch and KH3 is one of the games that even on Xbox One it runs at only 720p ( and even on the base PS4 which is a little more powerful than the XONE it doesn't run at 1080p ) so imagine that on a much weaker hardware like the Switch.

Anyway, this is really horrible, I hope it sells poorly so as not to encourage other companies to do the same.

I'd rather play Sonic Colors on Switch, at least that's a physical release and that's saying something. KH3 cloud version, fine, but the others? Really, SE? How stupid are they?

"Hey, guys! Let's port these beloved games to a handheld console so that people can enjoy them anywhere!"
'Oh, awesome, but I've got an even better idea.'
"What's that?"
'Let's make it so you need an incredibly stable, and high speed internet connection to have it even be remotely playable.'
"Wow, that doesn't clash with the system's entire concept at all! Let's do it!!"

Fuck this shit so much.

Not only KH3 but KH2.8 too, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 not only includes the 3DS remaster but also an original game called Kingdom Hearts 0.2 which also runs on Unreal Engine 4 like KH3, Switch would probably have trouble running it. ( also has Kingdom Hearts X in the collection. )

The only reason I can think of Square having made all the games run on the cloud is probably because they didn't want to go to the trouble of separating the games from the 2.8 collection, as 1.5 and 2.5 were originally built for the PS3 I really don't think it would be too laborious or expensive to port it to the Switch, but 2.8 would certainly be a problem.

1.5 + 2.5 remix runs on my old computer with integrated graphics, how the heck is this not ported?
well let's not forget, for the first 7 months on PC, all of the games besides 0.2 and KH3 (Unreal Engine 4) could just randomly and constantly crash, and it didn't matter if you had the most powerful PC in the world (the nature of the glitch that was happening made the games ask for INFINITE ram/cpu resources), and then, after 7 months, Square... released a patch that fixed the KH2 crashes. but the other 4 games? nobody can seem to confirm if they work properly on PC today

So... maybe THAT'S the reason they're only coming to Switch as Cloud versions?

You know what is sad, if they see this sells "bad" they might go like: "Oh, it's not profitable on a Nintendo console."

NO. It's not so profitable because not everyone has access to stable internet connection, a console and buying a license to play the game, instead of actually porting it. Unless they plan to port them to the Next Generation Nintendo system, I see no reasonable positive results.

And I'm a Kingdom Hearts player. I have played and am caught up in the story with Kingdom Hearts, I enjoy the games, but this treatment does not bring joy.

Everything else in the Smash presentation was amazing though!
and if they DO succeed, they'll keep making lazy cloud ports since "it's what sells."
what an actual fucking joke

if cloud streaming is the future of gaming, you guys are gonna have to find a new hobby that hasn't been completely fucked over by late stage capitalism
