Is there a way to do this? My bank pass expired and I would prefer to not buy another one because all I want to do is send my Pokemon Yellow to Pokemon Sun once. Is there some type of application that can do this so I don't have to shell out $5?

AFAIK you can use a save manager like Checkpoint or JKSM to back up both your Yellow and Sun saves, transfer them to your PC, then use PkHex (a PC utility) to transfer Pokemon from Yellow to Sun.

After doing that, all you'd need to do is inject the save you modified with PkHex back into your copy of Sun using the save manager you previously downloaded.

What won't import it: PkHex or the save manager you downloaded?
i am using jksv to back the saves up and i am just wondering, i use a program called ftdp client instead of removing the sd card, and whenever i import the save.dat i get a message saying an error occured.

So, when you try to load it into PkHex, the aforementioned error occurs?

Alright. Try renaming "sav.dat" to "sav.gb."

If that doesn't work, I'll try this on my own 3DS and copy of Yellow later today and let you know if anything comes up.

Are you trying to import it straight from the ftp client?
If so, try transfering the save somewhere in pc first and after that, import it in pkhex.

That has to be a problem with the ftp, it should work, as you can see on the last lines, it cannot open the save file for some reason
Try at least one time using the SD directly on your pc.

Also, the save format doesn't actually matter, but it has to be .dat or .sav with gb games

Hmm, very interesting.I tried to import an older save file of mine from Pokemon Red VC and it shows the same error, but I know for a fact that it used to work some weeks ago. Thus, the most likely cause for the error is pkhex.Try downloading an older version and test it again.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
