I read that ccd files should be supported so why I get this error when I try to open the ccd file instead of just booting the game?

I even tried a stable Mednafen but still the same error pops up instead of booting the game.

Other PSX emulators that I tried have no problem booting and playing this game.

Some of them are DuckStation, PCSX-Redux, Xebra, pSXfin 1.13, NO$PSX and even BizHawk.

Not sure what you issues are you having (and with what), or what you are trying to accomplish for that matter..

I got Tomb Raider for the PlayStation and I want to play it with Mednafen.

I read that Mednafen is an accurate PlayStation emulator and it supports ccd files.

The Tomb Raider that I got contains a ccd file and I read that I should open it with Mednafen in order to start playing this game.

I tried to open this ccd file with Mednafen but Mednafen gives me an error.

The error is in my first post.

Did you read it at all?

Didn't know Mednafen supports ps1 emulation.. Anyway, probably the game is incompatible? Isn't there any compatibility list of what works and what doesn't?
Honestly, other emulators work just fine (with most games), and i wouldn't be so sure about the "accurate" emulation..

Try dumping the original CD again. If I interpret that message correctly, the time/position marker(pointer) copy (in "Q" subcode) goes backwards at some point… and that doesn't make sense and shouldn't happen to my knowledge.

Use a good reading drive, preferably a full-sized one, not a laptop/slim drive. Verify the reading drive supports the reading mode RAW-Sub96, if you *want* to produce a clone image (not needed for Tomb Raider 1, standard copy with IMGBurn in non-RAW mode will suffice, there is nothing a clone image can add in this case).
Since TR1 uses an excessive amount of CDDA tracks for music (and voice acting!), a good audio reader is my recommendation: A "real" Plextor drive like the PX-760 or anything older than that.

I wouldn't prefer clone images (RAW or RAW+Sub96 read mode) for PS1 games unless dealing with LibCrypt infected games.

I doubt that the ccd file itself is the problem because many other PS1 emulators (listed in my first post) that I tried has successfully both booted and played this game without any error.

Perhaps or maybe this is really a compatibility issue and Mednafen can't boot this game and there is nothing that I can do to make Mednafen boot this game though it is said that Mednafen is one of the most accurate PlayStation emulator and thus Mednafen should have a very good compatibility with PlayStation (Most PlayStation roms should be bootable and playable with Mednafen even the complex ones).

I wanted to discuss this issue in the Mednafen forums, a more proper place then here gbatemps, but a registration is required to start any new discussions there and I have a problem to register a new account there.

In the registration forum I don't know what to enter after "Mednafen is a what? (correct)".

It is always reset to the default "alligator" (that is a wrong answer) and if I enter this then it says:

Mednafen devoured you! NOM NOM NOM

If I enter another wrong answer there then the only hint that I have there is

birdlator is your hint!

but it doesn't help me at all.

I tried the following answers but they are all wrong:

1. Multi-system Emulator
2. My Emulator Doesn't Need A Frickin' Excellent Name
3. Nintencer

I tried to google an answer to this but I didn't find anything.

This is so annoying.

I know that these forums hate and are against automated bots but the anti-bot security question is insanely difficult even for humans like me and it shouldn't be too difficult.

The .ccd is just a text descriptor file (as you posted above). It seems Mednafen reads through the .sub file for whatever reason. Again: The subchannel/subcode isn't needed at all for TR1. Without seeing the dump myself (and you may not share it!), I can't say anything more than:
Dump your original disc again, possibly in another format (bin/cue for example). RAW+Sub96 is overkill.

If you are running the games on a PC, it would be an option trying to starting the PS1 emulation from the original disc itself and/or from a virtual CD drive (insert your .ccd .img. .sub to the virtual CD drive)

You are saying that the dump is not alright for Mednafen and so I have to redump the disc (dump the disc again) to create a new dump that should be alright for Mednafen but I saw that for other PlayStation emulators that I tried the dump is alright because the other PlayStation emulators that I tried booted and played the game successfully without any error.

How do you explain this?

*Sigh*
No idea if the dump is to blame. My usual method is the process of elimination: Trying to find out what is not the problem, just to narrow down possibilities.
Some emulator rejecting a CD image (or ROM) while other emulators don't isn't something I would call unusual. I would suspect a more accurate emulator to be more picky.

Trying a different image format in the desired emulator isn't a problem, or is it?

To be honest I have no idea what that error message could mean. Values (addressing) in Q subcode going down/backwards again make absolutely no sense to me.

Then again: Please tell me your reason for choosing a format with explicit subchannel portion when there is nothing of interest in there. TR1 is not a LibCrypt game. CloneCD and similar applications default to dumping everything they possibly can, hoping to capture and possibly reproduce any non-standard structure (copy protection). But other than the standard PS1 license string protection (which to my knowledge cannot be replicated or approximated with a consumer burner) there is nothing special on that disc.

In any case, I did the very same thing by dumping my TR1 disc (Platinum version, Germany, SLES-00486) RAW+Sub96 in CCD/IMG/SUB format and got this in Mednafen:
TR1.jpg

Looking good so far, but I didn't play (no controller on my mum's Windows computer)

I see that you are a Windows 8 or 8.1 user. Does Microsoft still support Windows 8/8.1 nowadays?

And about Mednafen you proved me that my game files are not alright for Mednafen and I have to give Mednafen different files but for the same game so that Mednafen can boot and play this game.

Maybe you are right and if I will redump the disc again to generate different files for the same game then maybe Mednafen will be able to boot and play it but I won't bother.

I am not going to redump the disc again just for Mednafen.

I would prefer to use a different PlayStation emulator that can already boot and play these files and this dump.

I just thought that this is the best to use as much accurate emulator as possible in general but sadly now I find out that this is not true at all.

By the way the Tomb Raider that I want to play is not Germany but English because Germany is not my native language at all and I don't speak this language at all too.

So you only proved me that Mednafen can boot and play Tomb Raider in Germany but not in English.

Can you prove me that Mednafen can also boot and play Tomb Raider in English and not Germany?

I'm Linux user (and offline Windows XP for everything regarding CDs/DVDs -- like dumping PS1 games, since there is a Plextor Premium in the XP machine), this is my mum's computer, and yes Windows 8.1 is still supported, but I believe it will end this April. This computer will get upgraded to latest version of Windows 10 soon.

That is correct. I only tried the German version, since it is the only one I own an original disc of. Even if I was willing to do some illegal download (I won't do it), that wouldn't do anything for you, since it would probably be bin/cue format, not CloneCD image.
Sorry, trying to get that in another language is too expensive (work+money).

I understand.

Also I have computed the hash of my English Tomb Raider files with DuckStation and DuckStation colors the hash in red and draws red cross in the Status column.

I think that this confirms that my dump is really bad and I should permanently delete these files now instead of play them with any PlayStation emulator and redump my disc again if I don't want to face or deal with any unexpected issues in game like crashes, freezes, audio/sound stuttering, graphics glitches and etc.

EDIT:

Okay I have redumped my disc again and the new dump is no longer CloneCD image but as you recommended bin/cue (many different bin files with a single cue file to be exact) and not only that now Mednafen boots and plays the game but DuckStation colors the computed hash in green and draws a green V in the Status column.

I both believe and think that I can be sure that I won't face any issues in game with any PlayStation emulator that I will play with as long as the emulator of choice is compatible with this specific rom and I am pretty sure that Mednafen should be compatible with this one since Mednafen is a very accurate PlayStation emulator.

Now I am both happy and satisfied.

Thank you for your help.

what should I do if the disk shows that there is not enough space, but I open the properties it is practically empty?
I think that you should ask this question in a new thread and not here.

And from what I understand you get an error that there is not enough disk space to perform the operation but you checked your disk space and you see that there is no used space?

Did I understand you correctly?
