[UPDATE] Gotham Knights quietly re-adds Denuvo after update removed it

Gotham Knights was released late last week, to a mixed reception, at best. While the game's story or gameplay was criticized here and there, many had problems with Gotham Knights' performance, whether it was the 30fps-locked current-gen console versions of the game stuttering, or the PC port that suffered from random frame drops and crashes. Developer WB Games Montreal has promised that they're working on a general performance patch to help the game run better in the near future, with a minor patch having just been released to fix some bugs with the PC version.

General:

  • Invincible enemies playing a "meditating" animation will no longer appear in crimes.
  • Various UI issue fixes.
  • Fixed issues caused by graphical settings not being applied properly.
  • Various localization fixes.
  • Fixed various Keyboard/Mouse specific input issues.
Co-op:

  • Fixed an issue that was preventing being able to join friends through invites.
Stability:

  • Various crash fixes throughout the title, most notably during the S.T.A.R. Labs "free the scientists" fight and the Harley Quinn Hospital Boss Fight.
  • Fixed an AMD specific crash related to shadows.
Known Issues:

  • There may be some compatibility issues with Nvidia Ansel that we are still investigating for this patch

The patch notes for the latest version of Gotham Knights on PC says it solves some UI issues that players had, got rid of some buggy enemies, and fixed some of the problems that made the game crash. What the notes don't specify is that the patch also removed the Denuvo anti-tamper DRM from the game. Usually, major AAA releases will remove Denuvo months, or even years, after their launch window, but in the case of Gotham Knights, it was removed just five days after its release. Many claim that Denuvo hinders performance in PC games, which makes it especially notable that WB Montreal got rid of Denuvo so early into the game's life. However, while some may have hoped that the removal of the DRM fixed stuttering issues, gamers are still reporting that the game runs no better than it did pre-patch.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, it seems the removal of Denuvo was an error on WB Games' part. As of today, Denuvo was re-added back into the games exe after another small patch

This is like the opposite of a prank. The opposite. :P
1. Game announced
2. Game drops on release date
3. Find out denuvo added > "Oops, sorry, that wasn't supposed to be there. Get rid of it guys"
4. Bad end > Good end :P
5. For best ending, make drm free and add to all available pc market donors ON RELEASE DATE and not JUST ONE like steam or epic games. (Platinum trophy achievement) :ninja:

The whole thing looks shallow.. The crafting system looks overly complicated, the combat is nothing spectacular, missions are repetitive, and add the drm and the sub-par performance to that..

Was DRM removed to improve frame rates?

I thought the PC version was the only one without the shonky low frame rate, vs consoles.
You can brute force things to an extent on pc, but the problem seems to be that the game is super demanding cpu wise. Digital foundry seems to think its the result of poor design choices for using ue4.

1) Please also remove Denuvo from Persona 5 Royal and DOOM Eternal, thanks;
2) Did we really need Batgirl as a playable character? Isn't three characters enough, especially since you need to grind certain encounters to unlock each one's glider individually, or something?

I saw a video once where they tested a game with Denuvo, a pirated copy, and a DRM free version. All were the same version of the game running on the same hardware.

The DRM free and pirated versions performed about the same, and were about 4fps better than the version with Denuvo. That's not nothing, but it also is not enough to fix a game that is extremely poorly optimized, nor is it enough to ruin a well coded game.
