The 3DS can do both pop-out and depth... Developers can choose to do either, but they generally do depth because it causes less eye strain and because it's simply more natural.

If you want an example of pop-out, play nintendogs/cats and wait till your pet jumps up to the front of your screen.

Also add in super monkey ball, dead or alive D I saw pop-out effects on those.

The Best Buy store near my house set up a demo unit about a week ago, so I saw it for myself. It is a genuine 3D experience if you ask me. In fact, I'd say it's the best artificial 3D out there.

If you want to know, I played PilotWings. This was the only accessible software on the system, but it did a great job at showing off the system's capability. Truth be told, I prefer the depth effect, it really adds to the gameplay. I also discovered the root of my minor "3D deficiency" and found my comfort level on the 3D slider.

I want more of the actual pop-out 3D that everyone likes, rather than the old negative 3D... either way I'm getting it, but I would like to see more popout fun!

Pop-out is the cheapest form of S3D ever.
That's no reason to add S3D.
Depth would work better in games.

Though one of two pop-out effects where appropriate would add a lot.
Esp. in zombie games.
