I'm not planning to buy either in the short term. But next year perhaps I get Skyrim. I started playing it many years ago but I had to stop midway. It is perfectly suited for portability IMHO. A timesinker.

Regarding DOOM, sure it is a great game, but I tried the demo on XB1 and I just can't get attached to it. It didn't leave me wanting more.

PS: I would say try and find the one that suits you.

Between the two? DOOM, and here's why... Skyrim is an amazing game, one that you could literally pour hundreds upon hundreds of hours into. And portable Skyrim would be all the more amazing. But, having watched a lot of footage of the Switch version, it doesn't look nearly as lush and "full" as its console brothers. The grass isn't very dense, there's trees missing, some of the clutter and extra landscape bits are gone. And in return you get portability and some waggle controls with the JoyCons. Honestly, I'd rather just get it on PC. It would look a hell of a lot better and you can mod it, which can add an absolutely insane amount of content and replayability (possibly years worth of it). The Xbox One version of Skyrim SE is a decent substitute for the PC one if need be, it has pretty good mod support. The PS4 version needs to die in a fire. So, between the two games, I'd say DOOM for your Switch, seeing as it's still a blast to play at 30FPS and on a portable device. Save Skyrim for a system where you can benefit fully from the experience.

TL;DR: Get DOOM for your Switch, get Skyrim on PC or Xbone for mods and looking shiny.

Well i don't have a good enough PC for that, nor do i have a PS4 or Xbone. So you're reasoning to not get it on the Switch doesn't apply to me personally.

I caved and got Skyrim last night. ~39€ from South African eshop, that's ok. I just wanted to pay no more than 40, and retail price is 60€ here.

I got DOOM, if you have never played it before you will love it, the main campaign is a blast and it runs and plays solid also I put it side by side with the PS4 version and I could not tell the difference and that was undocked! the multiplayer side online experience to me is a bit nasty and felt a bit cheap I didn't like it, it was too scrappy! I get Skyrim tomorrow in the post I will update you.

What is the camera like on it mate ? I suffer with extreme migraines and related motion sickness and often can't play these types of games but am holding out hope that this newer version will be easier on the eye and head

Skyrim without mods? No, thanks. get Doom instead, it's fantastic if tc seek some quick matches, while waiting for bus or in line. @Xzi are there any porn contents in latest Doom??

I think he means "gore-porn" as in a lot of "beautiful" gore.
As in e.g. "food-porn"

Can't go wrong with Doom. Also, I recommend Skyrim on PC for the mods. Really, the added value that mods bring cannot be underestimated, and you can do so much more with mods on PC than you can with any console. So get Doom for Switch and if you want to play Skyrim in the future, I'd recommend PC because mods are something you do not want to miss out on.

Indeed. I suppose anything can be a fetish these days. DOOM is the kind of game to bring out your killer instinct. Watching demons who thought they might intimidate you turn tail and run after you grab a quad damage or go on a long killing spree is extremely satisfying. Fast, fluid movement with a "glory kill" system that IMO never gets old, especially because it varies with each enemy. If you like Quake 3 Tournament or Unreal Tournament you'll love DOOM, higher difficulties of the campaign in particular.

I'll be dropping another $30 soon on DOOM VFR.

you sure you don't just suck at skyrim?
No, he's 100% correct, Skyrim without mods has shit combat. Motion controls reportedly help with the VR version, but I doubt they're that helpful with the Switch version. BotW, Dark Souls, basically any other exploration RPG has better combat. Even if you don't make the game super easy from the start with Sneak Archer, you quickly become an unstoppable melee god and the difficulty slider makes little difference. You have to be more into the characters, enemies, and storylines themselves with Skyrim, because the combat is repetitive immediately.

It highly depends, if you don't mind all the trash & dust that comes with DOOM and like arena styled fast paced combat by all means feel free to buy it (it has no story some story*, linear, mainly focused on gameplay.), Skyrim, Its open world, has a progression system, its an RPG, and is packed with tons of combat & stuff.

So its dependent on tastes I guess. If you want to play something more casual go with DOOM.

They have a sales section in the eShop now, but I haven't seen any discounts on the big releases yet.
I never buy digital if I can help it. most of the time You can save up to 12 euro that way, just buying phisical.

Oh my god. Are you really be bothered by a few trees and bushes missing? Skyrim on switch has at least a steady framerate, fast loading times and is more appealing than the vanilla pc and xbox 360 version. But really stop judging game on appearance. nowadays this really is apparent as Digital Foundry and alike seem to claim.

Fair enough.

Here's a good comparison, though.

I did a bad thing...I..bought Skyrim on the Switch to support Bethesda and third parties in general. I'm sorry

I know I have it on PC, and I know that the DLC you gave me, oh man.... Please don't get mad.

Wow... Read my whole post next time. I also talk about content. I'm personally not terribly bothered by a few bits of scenery missing or the visuals being a bit less sharp. But I know others are. And having played Skyrim and Skyrim SE on various platforms, I simply wrote my observations. Don't even assume to know me or my preferences.

I'm not mad, why would I be :P ? For all I know, you'll go back and play it later. I'm not going to be upset over a measly $20, Ran ;)
