Hi everyone:),

am thinking to buy a wii console as of sep 2019, but not sure to buy the wii or wii u...? i dont want to buy the wrong console, so id just like to ask you guys here personally which one should i buy? ive missed the wii and the wiiU era console and their games. i have a ps3,ps vita, 3ds,switch. (will buy if i live in the future, a psp, ps4,etc etc ). Money is not really an issue, as long as its worth the money and not too expensive.

i mostly like to play action adventure/shooter games, racing etc, dont like rpg turn based slow games.

Which console would be easy to hack and to setup and run homebrew, emulators/game backups? if i get a wii, i presume i can play wii and gamecube backups at native res, (i would have to buy a gamecube controller or not?) If i buy a wiiU, can i also play Gamecube, wii and wiiU gamebackups at ease in native res? homebrew and apps would be a bonus, as id like to play games.

If by "playing gamecube backups" you mean with Nintendont, yes you can use other controllers (pretty much anything that's not a wiimote without accessories - this includes non-Wii controllers like the WiiU Pro or most generic and competing-console-brands usb ones) though of course comfort may vary

If i buy a wiiU, can i also play Gamecube, wii and wiiU gamebackups at ease in native res?
The WiiU does not output in non-interlaced standard resolution mode (the kind often called, technically correctly but misleadingly, "240p"), however it's very rarely used in GC/Wii games

On a Wii, you run disc backups from SD or USB; on a WiiU you can do the same by modding Vwii (although having to fight a little if you want to use a standard-filesystem USB drive), and/or you can go "enhanced Vwii" and convert your Wii/GC discs to software that installs in WiiU mode to a WiiU format drive and can (optionally) be played on the gamepad

I was in you situation and I decided to buy the Wii U, and I've never regretted it. Played through lots of games on GC and Wii, not to mention Wii U games that I had very low expectations for before buying it (I basically bought the Wii U to catch up on those GC and Wii games).

I have a Wii U only (used to have a Wii) and my Wii U menu is filled with 300 games (which is the max the system allows) from Wii U, Wii, Gamecube, N64 and DS, everything but Wii U are injects.

Am also asking this to clarify this important point: On the wii U, can you play fully native emulators of wii and gamecube and their games, BECAUSE i have a ps vita which i hacked recently to play psp games and they cant run at native res, they run but with blurry graphics, which means i will have to buy a psp console to play them.

which one do you use more often? because you have a wiiU so do you still use the wii? because if you have a wiiU it means you can play all GC, wii games?
Wii_U can play Wii and GC, a true masterpiece when it comes to downward compatibility , actually WiiU doesn't emulate wii / gc. It more like down clock cpu & gpu therefore mimic real hardware.

If you can just grab one, get the WiiU :)
If you can grab both, do it :)

There's no reason to buy both. It's a waste of money, and if you're like me a waste of space on my TV where I can plug in one less console.

Wiiu is just overall good. You get hidden gems (the ones not on the switch), easy to hack. Have literately 3 generations of games to play. The only downside is fighting for usb support on wiiu with usbloadergx (since it doesn't like to detect partitions other than wbfs. when it does support other partition types)

Do you mean that the wiiU actually emulates and plays the GC and wii games even at better quality than on their own console?

There is no emulation going on.
Let me explain. Wiiu wii and gamecube run all on the same architecture, powerpc. The difference between the wii and gamecube is small, if anything, the wii is just a overclocked gamecube. The gamecube graphics processor was flipper. The wii had a similar chip, so similar that it could just do some minor tweaks to play gamecube games. Aka MIOS. The wiiu doesn't have a MIOS, however thanks to nintendont, it can convert gamecube instructions into wii instructions and act as a middle man (like a MIOS). Making Nintendo's MIOS not a requirement. The wiiu has it's own chip, but also another chip, the wii's graphics chip. The wiiu's cpu is basically another sped up version of the wii's cpu, which is a sped up gamecube. Aka because wiiu is a more powerful wii, and the wii is a more powerful gamecube. And Nintendon't can act as a kind middle man to gamecube instructions and wii
Which because it's not emulation, the system cannot improve what the gamecube originally outputed in regards to resolution.

Nice! you seem to be good at this, and you know whats under the hood! So what i understand is that the wiiU atleast plays the GC and wii games in their exact native res and speed etc, so there is no reason for me atleast to buy the GC or the wii

In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol
