One of the many Wii games that I wanted to put on my Wii U's HDD was Resident Evil 4: Wii edition. However, after seeing that the game has classic controller support, I wanted to see if I could get a vwii injection of the game that allows me to play the game with the Wii U gamepad. After multiple attempts and getting the right iso of the game, I finally made my wup file and installed it to my USB HDD drive.

The game itself works and I've managed to beat the game using the gamepad with force classic controller support for the very first time on Normal Difficulty in 21 hours. However, one key issue plagued me throughout my experience was that about ever hour or so my wii u would just suddenly turn off. No error screen or that infamous screech. The console just turns off and the power button blinks red before turning yellow like it's in sleep mode then back to red.

I have beatened the game with this problem and want to do a Professional run of the game now, but I want to fix this whole issue so I won't have to deal with it again, as it ranged from a minor annoyance for when it happens a little bit after I save to a big headache when I have to re-do long portions like the Chopper segment all over again.

This issue does not happen with other vWii games that use just the wiimote (+ nunchuk) or games with base Classic Controller Gamepad support like Harvest Moon: Animal Parade. The key issue comes from RE4: Wii and using the gamepad with forced classic controller support. It also doesn't happen if I just use the normal Wiimote and Nunchuk.

If anyone can help me, here are the specs of my wii u:

-Wii U (with Aroma enviroment. Plug-ins can be specified if required)
-1 TB HDD drive connected using a Y-Cable (both USB plugs are using the two USB ports at the front of the wii u next to the SD card slot)
-RE4: Wii edition injection (Created using UWUVCI Wii game injector. Uses a 1:1 iso dump of the USA version and covered to a wbps by UWUVCI in order to use the the Force Classic Controller Gamepad Support Patch. Injected into Rhythm Heaven Fever (USA))

Your wii u is overheating. Either you need to clean the inside from dust or clean the vents on the side of your wii u if your not comfortable enough to take apart your wii u.

Your Problem is probably the save energy setting of the WiiU/vWii.

Since the force Classic Controller Wii U Pad is not an official Controller, the Wii U doesn‘t receive an „official“ input from an „official“ Controller. After one hour without getting any „real“ inputs, the energy saving option turns off the console.

Go into the settings and disable the energy saving option. That should fix it

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
