If the real thing gets posted on /vg/ than we'd know immediately because everyone would be saying it's real, moreso than the trolls ever would've.
What does locking up a thread accomplish exactly?
What is there to stop more from appearing?
Maybe they will post themselves nude but have an early copy of the game over their exposed parts. That would be something.
Why keep it open?
From what I gather, everything that has been mentioned here is either a lie, a hoax or incomplete/unplayable files. We don't need more 41 pages of this (or do we?). I mean, why keep asking the same questions and getting your hopes up if, when the game is in fact ready, we will know it for sure?
To have a discussion and speculate. I do agree with you that all this posting is just nonsense that is needless and a waste of time (I need to unwatch this thread now, its become annoying to keep up) but what your asking is like turning off the valve of a septic tank and assuming that means no more shit will come through when in reality its only going to leak in other places if it has nowhere else to go. Just think of what your asking, its out of anyone's control.
I understand what you're saying but I won't deny that it is extremelly annoying to check in on this thread and see that there's NOTHING related to a leak of Breath of the Wild. It's basically people claiming that they have the game which sounds extremelly sketchy. Anyway, I might give up on this thread: when a legit leak happens (or if it happens), I'm sure a new thread will appear. If not, well, March 3rd.

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
