Publisher Assemble Entertainment and developer Tiny Roar announced their new game today: XEL. It is described as a game inspired by the Zelda series where you will need to solve puzzles, explore dungeons and battle robots and wildlife as you help the amnesiac protagonist explore and unravel the mysteries of land she finds herself in. An announcement trailer for XEL was released today giving us a look at some early alpha footage:

XEL follows an amnesiac protagonist named Reid, who finds herself shipwrecked on an enigmatic world with no memory of her previous life. Players will join Reid as she sets out to get to the bottom of the mystery behind this bizarre land filled with secrets, puzzles, and a not-so-stable sense of time. Explore a beautiful overworld dotted with challenging dungeons in a classic, top-down, 3D action-adventure format in a rich, vivid palette. During her quest Reid will meet charming, enduring characters, engage in thrilling combat, and of course, find and upgrade a whole bevy of nifty weapons, items, gadgets, and moves — some of which may help her jump through space and time.

Key Features of XEL include:
  • Sci-fi Dungeon Diving: The world of XEL features a vast, extensive overworld and challenging, Zelda-like dungeons to explore
  • A Deep Combat System: Become proficient at using a variety of attacks and combos, while dodging, and parrying to tackle and take out foes
  • Gadgets & Guns: Master and upgrade your weapons, shield, and gadgets to smash your foes and open up new areas to explore
  • Deep Lore and a Deeper Mystery: What exactly happened to this world, and who is responsible? Piece together a captivating story and dive into the legends behind the cryptic history XEL
  • Spacetime? Not a Problem: Unlock special abilities that allow Reid to bend the rules of space and time, grantingher access to previously impassable areas and opening up new ways to defeat difficult enemies
XEL is expected to launch in Q2 2022 on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

This here is a prime example of how nintendo fans take something and go completely off topic on a tantrum because someone has mentioned nintendo and pointing out just because another title looks similar, doesnt mean its inspired by or is a copy of, adding that nintendo were not the ones who invented this style of game/gameplay.

zelda is not the only game in which the character may awaken from what ever and for what ever reason
as for the sword in the stone, well if you want to be that picky, nintendo did not invent the concept of a sword in a stone either.

as for the rest, at no point have i said anything towards what nonesense you just spat out, i am not coming at any angle and classing people as jerks because game publishers are ripping off zelda..... ill try put in lamest terms for you what i actually said.

just because this game has a cartoon style and looks to be open world adventure, does not mean its copying off or inspired by zelda, then stated that nintendo did not invent this style of gameplay.

now i have no idea what your blabbering on about about been a one to one zelda clone, what the hell? so if we ever see an open world like adventure game using a cartoon style theme - your saying its a one to one xelda clone?

please try not to get upset when someone simply says just because its similar does not mean its copying off nintendo, as my last comment pointed out, breath of the wild, using your logic then its a clone of skyrim?
now your are just being dumb, on the store under this game where developers have to write their own stuff they mention zelda like dungeons, it was not invented by the press release, check their steam store page and read the part about this game...

also your really stingy that the devs acknowledge they are inspired by a nintendo ip? lol first blames gbatemp and then steam news and now that is on the page about their game that they set up themselves who are you gonna blame? seriously...

Did anyone even said anything bad about the game being a bad game or a rip off? no... when people hear zelda like they actually become interested and may buy it more than being just a random action adventure game, so the devs are making their own move and marketing.

Alright fine, i didn't get on the same plane as your main argument. I'm harping on developers intentions behind the production of the game. You are going after the fans reaction i guess. And to properly argue against what you're saying is to only bring up the similarities between the games and then you say Nintendo didn't start this.

Nintendo starting nothing doesn't matter is my new response ti you. They are Nintendo, they own zelda and i mean that in the sense that they 0wn zelda gamez. This is not simply an original open world game. It is a wannabe zelda clone that has deliberately taken aspects from the entire franchise bit by bit. To bank on the popularity.

Also the main character is bulma from dragonball.

it happens with literally every game since forever, there's even genres of games for games that are inspired on others: soulslike, metroidvania, roguelike, etc but people like you only get butthurt when it's a zeldalike lmao.

Genshin: NOOOOOOO its not a zelda clone.
The ubisoft zelda: NOOOOO its not following the hype of the zelda genshin and its not like zelda at all (i agree that protagonist is too ugly).

Now with this game:
NOOOOOOOO~~
so because its got a cartoonish style, open world, top down view and has dungeons its zelda inspired?

why is it anything anyone does after nintendo doing what others have already done, makes it zelda inspired?

@Spider-Man , I agree with one of the previous posters who said that the devs probably said it was zelda-inspired to create interest. most gamers know what to expect from a zelda game, so they expect something similar with this game. heck, my mom knows what zelda is, and she doesn't even game. it's good marketing strategy.

I think it's cool he's advocating for this random game hard. And even expressed interest in buying it when it comes out. Those words will be more valid than those who won't play or look at it when it comes out.

There's still plenty of argument to be made that nintendo fans are weird and slightly annoying when it comes to their approach to playing new games. We need more anti nintendo members here to keep us in check and the guy was being cool for the most part.

Except he wasn't. The only thing he advocated for was bolstering his opinion that "nintendo fans = bad and dumb cause they compare everything to nintendo baselessly." Everything he said was specifically to refute that any evidence exists that it was inspired by zelda. Every time anyone brought up any evidence, he was ready to specifically counter with his speculative nonsense. It wasn't "you should buy the game" or literally anything good about the devs, just that "it's not actually inspired by zelda." He couldn't care less about the game. He cares about being right.

Well i was extrapolating a bit from what he said here https://gbatemp.net/threads/zelda-i...-pc-and-consoles-in-2022.593166/#post-9561880 at the end.

If you think he is just using this as an excuse to rag on Nintendo fans then that wouldn't be cool of him

"Zelda-inspired" I bet it's a marketing strategy to boost sales & hype the game.. other than the grass and it's color looking similar to BOTW, i don't see any similarities.

Well, from what I've seen, the enigma stuff, dungeon based levels and tool collecting seems Zelda-inspired

In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol
