Brawl Hacking

Yep, I'm into hacking the game by creating or rather rigging custom characters using 3DS Studio Max. Why? Because I love a good challenge and have learned much about how character animations work B-)So far, I have successfully imported roughly 21 characters from other games into Brawl using 3DS Studio Max and looking back, I've come a long way.

Here are some of examples of what I've done

The other ones I have include Felicia from Darkstalkers, Krystal from Star Fox Adventures, Terra from Final Fantasy Dissidia (Esper form), lots more that I've been able to import. It's hard work, but worth it! Thank goodness it's super easy to test these on Dolphin!

What do you guys think?

Those are really good!
The model styles don't match Brawl, but that's to be expected from a straight import.

I was actually in the Brawl hacking scene before the final File Replacement Code was published!
If you need any help, I might know a thing or two, though models aren't my specialty.

Yeah, they do look weird in some instances, but the game is the most hacked game in the Wii community and I'm actually quite active on Brawl Vault (where I do all my collaborating, asking for ideas, etc). The File Replacement code doesn't work in Dolphin, so what you do is extract the ISO image, replace the files, recompile and load the ISO. It's pretty convenient for testing, but if you have some suggestions on imports, I'll see what I can do! :P

You're making these so you can make a game for the 3DS? Cool. And they do look really awesome. And I like how the notification said that you posted a blog in his/her page. I love Weregarurumon; I love that show. :) Maybe I should try this and see how he plays (Pikachu was disappointing...)

Sorry, no, these are for just Brawl :P The Wii U version won't be hacked for a while! Weregarurumon is a freakin' awesome digimon :P Do you have any suggestions? Do you think I should post pics of my my more *ahem* feminine hacks?

Lilimon would be cool. Isn't Princess Peach/Daisy in there as well? And a Care Bear wouldn't hurt... :P Yeah, you can post pics of those *ahem* feminine hacks; there'll be people who'd like to see them.

Even if one of them has a more cyan vulpine appearance? :creep: I'm sure you know who I'm talking about :P The other one, well, not sure if Terra's esper form would be considered NFSW or not.

Whoa, that *ahem* feminine pic is awesome! Can we see the other two you have like that? And a half dog/half sheep one would look cool. Sounds like a monster from Yu-Gi-Oh! The Original Show.

Okay, posted the other pictures you wanted! :P I might revise Krystal and Terra in a 2.0 version just to refine the rigs a bit :P

Redoing Krystal over Peach, fixing up the rig so the fingers animate better as well as adding more vertices to the arms so they too aren't so rigid during animation :P That, and doing recolors so I have green, red, purple, etc versions of her.

Oh yeah! The best vulpine heroine there is!

Yeah, looks awesome! Does it come in pink? Or maybe you could try rainbow if you're feeling pretty ambitious...

@calmwaters oh, I actually already have recolored textures that I made with Photoshop, pink being one of them :D Purple, pink, yellow, green, and a few others I forgot. I plan on releasing this tonight (almost done) or early tomorrow. Do you have a hacked Wii or a means of running hacks for Brawl. I'll definitely give you a link when I'm done. Not only will she be able to use her staff as a weapon like Peach, but it will come with the standard blue along with the other colors. Glad you like it so far!

Yeah, I've got a hacked Wii, but I could probably test them in Dolphin like you're doing. (I got rid of my copy of Brawl so I'll have to get another one :( )

You know that with Dolphin the image has to be extracted with Wii Backup Fusion, files replaced and then recompiled with it right? The File Replacement Code crashes the emulator :P Still, I think this is gonna be my best hack yet!!

...or you could use Dolphin's feature to run an extracted game from a folder.

Even though the former method is much less tedious with WIT, the latter is still much easier.

Oh, and I should add that if you use the File Replacement Code through the GeckoOS WAD, the File Replacement Code works fine. I used to run Brawl Minus on Dolphin that way.

@Fishman P, that feature isn't present in Dolphin 4.0, believe me I tried lol. There is currently no way to tell Dolphin, at least AFAIK, to run the RSBE01 folder directly without compiling an ISO with replaced filed. But if there is a way in Dolphin 4.0 (the most recent officially supported version), then please let me know because I couldn't figure it out :P

Suffice to say, the hack is completed and ready for release! I don't have Gecko OS installed, but I do have the System Menu wad on Dolphin :P

If there is indeed a way to run the game directly from the extracted ISO folder instead of having to recompile the ISO every time, that would be very nice and would make running tests a lot easier.

If you do have to recompile the ISO, make a .bat for WIT to recompile the ISO. It's really fast, and it can spit out any kind of image you want.
