I've had a relapse and things feel about the same

Porn is still an issue for me, it is a literal and palpable hell. It has been tormenting me and my biggest fear is people hating me or thinking less of me for giving it up, if that makes any sense. Right now, I'm being my own worst enemy, causing myself to fear irrationally on what will happen when I try to go cold turkey on viewing it, including Source Filmmaker and the like. What will people think of me? What will people do in response? The last thing I want is a falling out with anyone who knows me and when they find out I'm going cold turkey on porn, then what? I know these fears are completely and utterly unsubstantiated, but I still think on what they'll say. What I need to do is focus on more wholesome activities, such as taking RAW photos and editing them in Photoshop, and since I love taking pics of foxes and other adorable animals, I think it's a great whole activity. Photography brings many people, myself included, a lot of joy, Speaking of photos, I want to apologize for not keeping my fox thread up to date, I've been meaning to and I will try to keep it up to day, so, I apologize for that. Um I know I must sound pathetic, and I just don't know how else to word this, I hate this feeling, I hate the literal hell I'm in, this torment. I want to be free from this once and for all, and the first step is admitting I have an issue, the second being removing SFM and all pornographic materials from my PC, saving me countless GB's of space. I just want to thank you for all your support so far, I know I haven't been a good member and have been a pain in many members' side, but still, thank you.

@Josshy0125 the proof is in the pudding. Find the thread I am talking about and answer honestly. Would you want your daughter to marry 90% of the men you see on that page? If you are answering honestly, the answer is a resounding no.

There is a large population of this community that is into their late 20s- late 30s that still carry teenage angst and hate everyone/everything. Not too long ago people were posting fury adult content as their profile pictures. Fury adult content is stuffed animals with male/female genitalia, do you really think this is normal behavior from a well adjusted individual?

What are you even talking about? Your reply is making zero sense. What proof? Proof of what? And I don't care, as long as she's happy. If she's happy with them, and they treat her well, then why would I care? They could be Bible-thumping Christains, or complete atheists, I couldn't care less. As long as they were to treat her well, that's all I'd care about. You know what being racist is, yes? You're doing that same thing but with religion (or the lack thereof) and are making SO many assumptions that I can't even comprehend how you got to such a twisted conclusion.

M
Josh I am not talking about religion, since you lack reading comprehension I will no longer reply to your comments as doing so would be a complete waste of my time.

@aykay55 and Maluma

*Redacted* I wasn't disputing God existing, and I still to this day think religion does a lot of positive things in most cases. Most parts of religion are very wholesome. But there's no denying it is used as a tool to justify hate. If you ever actually read things Fates posts, he's not "religious". Hes had hate-filled bullshit beat into him all his life, which is a very common thing for religious extremists to do. If you don't know what the word extremist means, look it up in a dictionary. A good example would be ISIS, but hey if you support ISIS there's no helping you.

You both being too *redacted* to understand the distinction is pretty dangerous, and really damages the image of religion as a whole. Hell it's the main reason religion is seen the way it is by so many. Supporting people who justify their hatred of others using religion is disgusting and completely counter-intuitive if you actually are religious.

Get educated folks. Stop being *redacted* blindly defending things that shouldn't be defended.

In regards to op, if you dont mind me asking, has this addiction caused you any issues? I feel its rather normal to watch porn, and the amount varies from person to person. I just wanted to ask, at what point does porn-watching become an addiction?

It's like any other addiction

The criteria laid out in the DSM-5 are

  1. Taking the substance in larger amounts or for longer than you're meant to.
  2. Wanting to cut down or stop using the substance but not managing to.
  3. Spending a lot of time getting, using, or recovering from use of the substance.
  4. Cravings and urges to use the substance.
  5. Not managing to do what you should at work, home, or school because of substance use.
  6. Continuing to use, even when it causes problems in relationships.
  7. Giving up important social, occupational, or recreational activities because of substance use.
  8. Using substances again and again, even when it puts you in danger.
  9. Continuing to use, even when you know you have a physical or psychological problem that could have been caused or made worse by the substance.
  10. Needing more of the substance to get the effect you want (tolerance).
  11. Development of withdrawal symptoms, which can be relieved by taking more of the substance.

Two or three symptoms indicate a mild substance use disorder; four or five symptoms indicate a moderate substance use disorder, and six or more symptoms indicate a severe substance use disorder.

I feel that theres a difference between porn addiction and something like... crack addiction. One is a natural feeling, and the other is an unnatural substance. And reading some of those points, i dont agree that unlike with other addictions, they make sense for porn addiction. For example, with a healthy sex drive, 1-4 are to be expected. Masturbation, for example, is natural, and to have these urges are biologically normal. I can agree on other points there though. The concept of porn addiction has always been weird to me.

I think a few times per day is not too bad, but if you are masturbating the day away - and it's negativity affecting your life as laid out in the criteria - then it's as real a disorder as gambling

These are all about how they affect your life. If you masturbate 100x a day but you have a great life, good job and are happy then it's not a disorder.

It's when you aren't working, you hate yourself, you feel powerless, you don't have friends, you're putting yourself in danger (kiddie porn) that it becomes obvious there is a real addictive process taking place

Oh wow, I learned something new today, but don't worry I don't judge. You may know from the bible:
Matthew 7:1 that Jesus said:
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Is a scripture that everyone should take hart, but weather or not if you want to is up to you.
Also I think acknowledging and wanting to reduce the amount or eliminate porn can only be a good thing. I don't see how that is negative. So I'm thinking more than likely, people that knows you will applaud or even support you for the effort, but then again I don't know them and could be wrong.
If anything if going cold turkey is not going to work in the long run, you could partake porn at reduce amount and each time partake in it even less amount until you're satisfied with the amount of porn or completely stop partaking porn all together with time. Porn in moderation so to speak until completely eliminated.
Keep in mind though that usually going cold turkey almost always ends in failure. Although this isn't like say Crack or heroin so I don't know if the chances of quitting porn cold turkey is still feasible. Perhaps modified cold turkey would be better.
The choice is yours and yours alone, hopefully the choice you make will be a great one for yourself. I would like to add don't give a *uck what other people may think of you negatively, but I know that can be easier said then done.

If we could discuss this without profanities and name-calling that'd be great, guys. Some messages were edited to remove those, keep it clean, alright?

I agree that there is a difference between substance addiction and porn addiction but there is also a difference between a naked woman and modern porn.

Modern porn is designed to be a supernormal stimulus. In real life girls don’t have professionally applied makeup, surgically enlarged boobs and photoshopped bodies. I imagine that real sex is slower, quieter and more romantic. Modern porn is designed to maximise arousal in men and keep viewers wanting more and more and more; it’s designed to maximise ad revenue and persuade viewers to buy premium subscriptions.

@the_randomizer try disrupting your routine. Cancel your internet subscription*, securely delete all the porn off your hard drive then spend a week camping. When you get back, it will be easier to change your habits.

Remember, the more time you spend looking at boobs, the lower your chances of actually touching them.

* Inconvenient, yes, but if you avoid wasting hours jizzing every day, it is worth it.

That sounds dangerously close to the slippery slope argument there leafeon34.

Not to mention in the name of science I had a quick scan (was going to say squizz but that would have been an unfortunate word choice) of 50s on up porn (it tends to get categorised as vintage if you needed to repeat the test). Different trends in hair styles (in both senses of the word) but broadly the same from where I sit, and 70s gonzo porn was an option as well it seems.
Option is probably the key word there -- you don't have to go in for the super slick (in both senses of the word) stuff that ends in 5 people with prolapses and plenty of more realistic stuff exists, if for no other reason than the seemingly super popular amateur and webcam setup tends to feature fairly normal people without the abilities some of the, for want of a better term, "higher tier" performers seem capable of doing. Doesn't have to be an inevitability that you trend towards "harder" stuff either any more than having eaten some chocolate earlier means I am going to forgo my vegetables this evening.

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but...
The fact that you think this is an issue IS the issue. You do you and don't let anyone tell you you're wrong.
Masturbating is a completely natural thing, even animals do it. And masturbating without some kind of porn is just boring. I could see it being an issue if you had to do it every half hour and that could be considered an addiction, but once a day or every few days is not an addiction, that's simply a good way to relieve stress.
There are far more important things in life to focus on than this.

I wanted this blog to be a place that is safe and free of bickering. If you people can't do that without profanity or insulting or being demeaning, I'm going to have to eject you from the blog. This is your first and only warning.

No, but some other people have had. Anyways, the issues I've had are no long issues per se since I've been getting therapy. I should've closed this blog long ago. It's just deviating too much but whatever.
