Jailbreaking spree

Welp I'm officially insane /s

I found my iPod Touch 4th Generation and my dad gave me his old iPhone 4. He wants me to jailbreak his phone and I want to jailbreak my old iPod. This is the 2nd and 3rd device I hacked this month. Anyways, I find jailbreaking iOS devices fun because it can be one click, or it can be millions of required files.

@aykay55 no, it was proven in court that Apple crippled older devices through poorly made updates so people would buy newer ones.
And not a single shit was given, too, nor people were compensated.

It's called bloating your device with way too many tweaks...

My friends device died in front of me. It did not boot. Ever. It wasn't dead. He tried to put it in DFU mode. Didn't do anything, meaning the iPhone was destroyed.

why would you update it?

If you wanted to remove the mark

What the fuck? What an empty claim. I'd like some proof.

The whole point of jailbreaking is that it's customisations by the community, without Jailbreaking, Apple would run out of ideas. Apple also likes to drop support for many devices, so jailbreaking pretty much adds life to obsolete devices too.

Doesn't mean tweaks work or are stable. Many apps were removed from the Cydia store which were on for years because Saurik found malware inside them sending personal info directly to whatever guy's server

There are a bunch of tweaks to fix this problem

What if you update? You lose your tweaks.

@Super.Nova That is not against the law. Coke has a salty aftertaste you don't notice which makes you want to drink more. Lay's has flavoring that wants to make you eat more. Apple cripples your old iPhone so you buy a new one.

@Super.Nova And when hackers come to remotely download malware apps on your Android?

@Dionicio3 Sorry

I don't see why we should just stop jailbreaking even if jailbreaking is somewhat dead. There's still some shit available that can make using an older iDevice a nicer experience, or even a fairly recent one. I honestly only have one tweak and three apps from Cydia. You don't stop playing the existing games on a retro console just because there's no new games coming out on it.

@Tomato Hentai You will if that game ruins your console because of it's unstableness and battery-demandingness.

But having no tweaks makes using my phone more of a pain in the ass. I'd rather slowly ruin my phone than constantly have a shitty time using it.

@Tomato Hentai Depends on your perspective. The iOS device will have normal battery life, and virtually no functionality problems, but will be very 'dry' and dull. If you jailbreak your device, you will have some cooler features, but the device will become really, really slow and will drain the battery faster than it can charge. Alot faster. And there is nothing you can do about it.

@wormdood Yes-ish. iPhones usually become slow because it's on a newer operating system. If kept on the original OS (iPhone 7 on iOS 10) with normal use, it could last years with no problems at all.

Same as a Windows 7 computer running Windows 10.

damned if you do, damned if you dont?

It will get a little slower after a big update (iOS 10 → iOS 11). Jailbreaking will cause your iOS device to become really slow and crash alot. It may not boot correctly either, booting into Safe Mode (installed when you jailbreak, used to prevent some damage to iPhone if it doesn't boot correctly) alot of the time.

Okay guys, I just tried to discourage you to do it so you don't end up like me. If you want to jailbreak go ahead.

G
My phone itself hasn't crashed once. My phone hasn't booted improperly once.
