I thought it was a fun series overall. They really could have at least made the music different every time and improved more between games.

Wii U was a we don't have a game for release and it came out close to 3DS and the DLC that people were tired of the games since they were mostly the same.

Although I do love the 3DS version the most since it's the most different among the 5 games.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the Wii U didn't even have a mainline Mario game! I started to get Sega Saturn flashbacks from that whole situation. In that case, Sega was like, "we're not completing Sonic X-Treme, so here's Sonic 3D Blast again!" Not exactly the same, but similar vibes.

It's strange, since the Wii U did get a mainline Zelda with Breath of the Wild. Of course, it was another Twilight Princess "made with both console generations in mind" kind of thing, but still.

I kinda like all of them but I don't love or miss any of them.

Not a huge fan of the physics and response (even though I don't see Super Mario World's very precise feel as the only valid option), and I do think that the music, levels and art are subpar when compared to the very high standards of previous 2D Marios.

DS and Wii are the ones I remember the most for being a comeback and introducing multiplayer, respectively. Wii U would probably be the one I consider the best if taken by itself, but in context it just felt like more of the same.

I do consider 3D World to be mainline. It may feel like a bit of an odd duck in retrospect right now (with Odyssey going back to a more exploration-driven 3D Mario), but I think it was intended and seen as mainline at the time, no?

I think I get what you mean. Like Castlevania, where the mechanics are meant to be restrictive to add more strategy and memorization to the mix. With Mario games, precision has been there since the beginning. Mario platformers are like "tentpoles" for the genre (whether 2D or 3D). No excessive sliding before stopping, no knockback from damage, no delays in input, etc. I think those design aspects are what makes a Mario game safe and predictable. For many, they're the introduction to the genre as a whole.

The deal with Super Mario 3D World is that it's part of the Super Mario 3D Land "series." Super Mario 3D World has more in common with Super Mario 3D Land than with Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Odyssey. SM3DW was a fully-fledged game with plenty of content, but it wasn't a mainline game.

Very well put!

I get you, it does feel like 3D Land and 3D World are kind of a miniseries of its own.

    @Xdqwerty HM...

If the cat girl leaves, my kokoro dies a little.

If I piss off the cat grill friend, I get no food and he's likely to grill me.

There's just no winning here 😂

  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
You control a kitten. You fall out the window and have to make your way back home. Solve some light puzzles, do cat things like knock stuff over and steal things, trip people up when theyre walking, pounce on birds, complete goals/tasks etc. in the process of getting back to your home.

  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
@SylverReZ It's short but adorable imo. Im a HUGE cat lover. Can be completed in a couple of hours if just going for the main goals. But can be stretched out a good deal by exploring and doing everything there is to do and see.

So a man goes to the doctor because his boner wont go down. As he is laying in the hospital bed, with his thing propped up in the air, a fly is flying around and landing on the tip and bothering him, so he calls in the nurse. The nurse comes in, swats at the fly but can't quite reach it, so she climbs his boner to get better aim. After a few tries of swatting and sliding back down, she says sorry I cant get it. He says keep going, a few more tries, and I can shoot it down.
