It will work with class-2 and class-4, but there's concerns because read speed is what's important, while class dictates write speed... so the class isn't always an indicator of how well a microsd works. That said, the higher-class carts tend to be built better than the lower-class ones, which is why people suggest going for a class-4 or class-6.

I'm happy as all hell with mine.

I've owned alot of flash devices since the gbc, and the fact that this is so well supported, and can be gotten for as cheap as £7 amazes me.

I really think it was a great review, but i need a bit of help.
Some of my family went on holiday to lansarotti, and saw an r4 gold with a printed 3ds logo and its all ds compatible, but it didnt come with a microsd card. I used to have an acekard but it broke, so i used that one. Is that the wrong thing to do? And also, im not sure how to boot it up, can you help?

hi i really wanted to know afew things about this R4(on a 3ds) :
-can it play 3ds roms?
-can it some how also play GBA roms with any homebrew?
-can it run that Snes emulator for NDS with the game: super mario RPG(got a old R4 for NDS but that one can´t run it)
-can it watch movies without needing to convert to a other file format just for a NDS but play like AVI files

NOTHING available plays 3DS ROMs. There are no flash carts or softmods at all to play 3DS ROMs.

There is one homebrew, but it will NOT play the vast majority of GBA games out there.

No.

No.

This is a normal flash cart. If you want a flash cart with extra features, look into the DSTwo.

But it's still not perfect.
For GBA/SNES emulation I recommend a PSP instead.

-can it some how also play GBA roms with any homebrew? There is this homebrew, but it's not very good. I suggest looking into a Supercard DStwo or Ez-Flash IV for GBA roms.
-can it run that Snes emulator for NDS with the game: super mario RPG(got a old R4 for NDS but that one can´t run it) No, even the DSTWO's CATSFC, has problems emulating Mario RPG.
-can it watch movies without needing to convert to a other file format just for a NDS but play like AVI files No.

can it watch movies without needing to convert to a other file format just for a NDS but play like AVI files. --You need to convert AVI to .dpg. Besides, you can make use of mutilmedia Version V1.51C to play movies.

A very nice review. It's very useful for newbie to flashcards.

How to decide your r4i gold 3ds bought now is a genuine one or not?
1.Be sure the website on the sticker of your card is www.r4ids.cn
2.Running WOOD R4 for it and click start and help, you should get the image listed below.
Please pay attention to "HW:R4i Gold 3DSb".

3.Pay attention to the PCB inside the shell of your card and compare it to the picture below.
Please pay attention to the elements marked with the yellow rectangle.

I made an account just to post in this thread. I'm left with a bit of an issue as it seems. My DS lite has just recently kicked the bucked, and I bought a 3DS XL. I rather like it, and honestly, holding my old lite feels.... just uncomfortable. But now, my R4 is kinda... not of much use. I'm fully aware that this won't play 3DS games, but it would be nice to have access to my normal DS library. My issue is, I manged to buy my R4 off a sight that still had paypal. And now... I can't seem to find one.... And I'm wondering, where is it safe to buy? I really don't feel comfortable giving any of the sites I've seen my checking card info, so that's why I'm looking for recommendation. I'm not sure if this should warrant it's own thread, but this seemed like a good enough place to ask.

I'd stick with cheapo Chinese $10 ones quality is actually becoming on pair with name brand since name Brand usually quads the price up anyway loose one bud that's another $200

My Pixel Pro buds shit the bed a month or two ago. My wireless charger (which they do support Qi charging) absolutely COOKED them. Caused some problem that caused the case to heat up to 180F+
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
They were like 9 months out of warranty but I hit up Google support anyway and told them how hot they were getting and they replaced them with new ones because they wanted these for failure analysis lol

    lol wireless charging

Yeah that's why I can't bring myself to even spend $100 on wireless earbuds

Apparently the case has a problem with >15W wireless chargers. Google design fault, that one.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I could live with wireless charging if the damn standard case doesn't block connection

@Xdqwerty, power through a coil of wire causes an electromagnetic field to be generated. Another coil of wire can be set up to harness the power from that electromagnetic field and turn it into usable energy for charging a device
