I have a 64GB MicroSD for my phone...

If you guys really want me to try it I can try it, but I'm pretty sure it will work.

That would be amazing! I guarantee there are so many people reading this thread that will purchase a 64GB card if your results are successful. So many of us just bought a Gateway or even a 3DS based on the upcoming Gateway 2.0 (I bought 3 x 3DS and 3 x Gateway for the family myself)

Really appreciate it, please specify all the details of the card if it works, Brand, Model, #, I just had crappy microsd that did not work so I know first hand some don't work.

No, it's not the hardware.

The difference between SD, SDHC, and SDXC is just firmware in the reader. That's why the Wii was not able to read SDHC when it was released, but through a system menu update Nintendo added that ability.

I don't think this is a universal rule. Also, it seems that there's no way to update the internal reader of the GW cart. Why don't you just test it?

Because I am at work right now. I'll test it when I get home. I was just telling you that it's not a hardware issue.

And Rockstead, sure thing.

Gateway team says it won't work with a MicroSD bigger than 32GB, if your test with a ROM image is successful then that's cool, but if it doesn't work, only they have the last word about future compatibility, as I said before, what you're telling me is not necessary a universal rule.

That's great. Now I don't know if I actually read the 32GB limit info from their official page or from a random user  My mind might be playing with my memory.

i flash one game on it, then the 64gb was working great with my gateway ... duno what to say more :)

so just got a gateway, only tested SMB 3-d land so far, so far so good.

good to know that 64 gb xc cards work , but if you have to formatt to fat32 only for gateway, then what about roms over 4gb? fat32 only works with below 4gb files right? and the 4 gb roms are a little over 4gb ,so does that mean that all 4gb games have to be trimmed to work with fat32?
what is the largest rom size in GB ,4GB?
and how much does trimming really remove, anyone have a list of trimmed rom sizes?

so a 4gb rom that is really 4,189,304 will work with FAT32 file system without being trummed ,or no? cause i thought 4gb was the file size limit for FAT32

actually sdhc and sdxc has more to it than just the formatting it comes with... sdxc card formatted with fat32 will read fine in sdhc readers but anything beyond the first 27gb will not be addressable.. i ran into that limitation with my dstwo.. i was able to access all the roms i copied over to the first 27gb (keeping in mind the 255 roms per folder limitation) and all the folders beyond the first 27gb would freeze the system when accessed and using any type of file browser homebrew would show the last file it was able to address before hitting the limit.. everything copied over after it was missing... i tested this multiple times by deleting everything and re-copying everything again and every time the folders that ran into the issue changed.. tried different adapters and even a separate laptop with a built in reader to ensure it wasnt a bad adapter or my computer doing this and same situation also tried a different 64gb sdxc card i had in my phone to make sure i didnt have a fake sandisk card but same story..... now this doesnt rule out a firmware update fixing the ability to address beyond 27gb but idk if sdhc readers can be updated to read sdxc like the wii was able to do with sd and sdhc.... in anycase im using the 64gb card as a 27gb card for now...

I don't know how Gateway will handle this issue. At the moment, every trimmed ROM is below 3.72 GB but maybe Super Smash 3DS will be the first 8GB ROM released, so exFAT or NTFS support will be needed.

As for a list, try 3ds.essh.co

-snip- ...in anycase im using the 64gb card as a 27gb card for now...

Thanks for pointing that out. So, it's still possible that Gateway won't fully support a 64GB MicroSD, still there's no way to test this out without MultiROM support.

Here is a picture in relation to how XC and HC work.
