That's always an option. Idk if it's trustworthy though. I was thinking of selling it online and buying another one in it's place but I never done this before and I'm afraid that I'll get ripped off. Oh well, I appreciate everyone here who gave us some valuable tips. I guess I'll have to wait.

Not really. Give info on the Serial number would help.

Example of where recommending a bundle fails: reissued bundles for the holidays, these will have a later serial number and very likely a more recent 3DS firmware.

Serial: SEF1138**** *
Copyright: 2013
Firmware: 4.5
Region: EU

Hope this is enough info :)

Just a head's up for those looking in the US: I was able to pricematch Target's $149.99 price at BestBuy. They keep them in a cage up front and the guy let me look through it. The one's up front we're all new/no good, but towards the back there were several SW12**** one's. I got a red and a blue. Good luck.

Just went to the Stapleton Walmart in Colorado. They had ONE SW12 in the back. All the others were SW13+.

Also went to 5 targets looking for a SW12, but no dice. Seems they've burned through all their stock with that sale.

Oh well, at least I found one. Thanks pricematching :D.

On another note, I just performed the swap. Instead of swapping mainboards, I swapped the red pieces with the black. Which consist of the top and bottom outer casings. I did the inner bottom casing as well, because of the SD cover colors, and so inner serial #'s match. It was much quicker and easier than swapping boards, which is what I was planning on doing originally. Plus, the black SW40 has a very annoying clicky hinge, whereas the red/black SW12 is soft and quiet. There is much less play in the hinge when it's positioned too, so it's good I didn't swap mainboards, or I'd be stuck with a loud and annoying hinge with too much play in it. That's no good.

Brand new all black XL on v4.4, for $150, that's the shit.

I don't know if it's related but the hinge on my clicky 3DS cracked (like the hinge problem of the NDS) and got repaired. The hinge on my new bought 3DS feels much better. It's soft and quiet and not as wobbly, just like you described it.

What would be a fair price to ask for a Red 3DS XL with 4.1 firmware, never been online, with Gateway and 16GB card? I'm sick of waiting around for 2.0 stable and really want to play Phoenix Wright so I'm out of the game I'm afraid. Perfect condition unit otherwise.

Good evening!
I had been at my local electronic store and checked the 3DS XL. The black ones were with SXX114 (...), the others (Blue/Black, Red/Black etc.) with SXX113 or SXX10X.
Am I right that those under are SXX113 are under 4.5? Don't want to pay that much money for >5.X.
(Sorry for my poor English)

Do you have a tutorial link for swapping to color covers? I would like to make my red 3ds xl a black one too...

Sounds familiar. I have two DS lites, one has a soft hinge, the other snaps when I close it. Never had any problems with the soft hinged one, but when I swapped shells of the loud one with an aftermarket smoke casing, and had the top cover off, I could see that the "click" was being caused by the hinge itself. I'd assume it's the same situation with the XL, defective hinges. If they are meant to snap and cause shock to the plastic casing that's a bad decision on Nintendo's part. If it weren't for my DS experience, I'd accept the snappy hinge as normal, but I don't think it is, I think they just let those ones slide through quality control assuming people won't notice.

There's a lot of them out there. I thought they would be hard to find these days, but I guess that's not the case.

Hmm, I recently bought a 3DS XL from Allegro ( ebay/amazon kinda thing in Poland ) , that was allegedly fabricly sealed. The box had seals and everything, date on the box : 2012, I don't remember serial number, but it shouldn't be relevant as the FW version was 6.2.0 ! Can someone explain to me how is that even possible? I really want a NEW 3DS XL , but I cannot afford trial and error method. Seller claimed that this box is fabrically sealed, and didn't want to take this console back.Should I take a risk and buy another one from a different seller?

2012 is not a good indicator. Look for a box with the serial number Sxx113xxxxx (European 3DS XL Red&Black/Blue&Black only) or lower.
