I've been using SNES TYL on the PSP with the incompatible games... and it kind of sucks. The emulatore runs well, but hangs a lot. Hopefully with this update we'll get that compatibility list all green and I can switch to the 3DS in full. :)

What I would like to see is a port of blargSnes sound core to snes9xtyl. This one has poor sound quality

I would be SO happy if I could play and enjoy emulation on the psp. But I can't. The crappy screen, crappy d-pad, worthless buttons and miserable overall build quality just makes me sad, angry and uncomfortable. I truly think the psp sucks. Haven't touched it for over 5 years. But I wish I could enjoy emulation on the psp because the performance are generally great.. And like all systems are emulated up to 32 bits consoles...

BlargSNES gives me new hope to be able to carry a snes and 100 snes games in my pocket <3

That's the major turnoff for emulators on the PSP, Snes9x has such horrendous audio emulation, it reminds me too much of Zsnes, BlargSnes has near-perfect audio, it sounds amazing :P

Don't get me started on how playing on the flimsy PSP is a scary affair... if your DS/3DS takes a fall you go "hopefully the hinge didn't break", if your PSP takes a fall you go "OMFG it probably imploded and it's over".

Perhaps not highest priority but I was thinking about scaling options. There are many different resolutions in the snes library. Even though many has 256x224 there are a lot of other resolutions.

My question is if it would be possible to implement or port PSP's Picodrive scaling solution? If that would be implemented there would be no limitations how the games could be scaled :)

I'm still reluctant to add a firmware-dependent kernel exploit into blargSNES. It's nice and all, but I think we're doing it wrong. Regular homebrews shouldn't use exploits, that's the role of the homebrew loader.

It should be possible to take the ninjhax base (the part where it hacks into CN and uses gspwn) and tack libkhax on top of that. And bam, full access, and done right. No need to hack homebrews. Everyone gets CSND.

As a bonus, libkhax seems to have much less side effects on the system than what ninjhax does (taking over spider/skater and leaving it run in the background in a half fucked-up state). This means we might be able to get working APT shit. And more generally, a more sane environment.

All of this is mostly theory, but hey, it has to be tried out. They say compiling Ninjhax is a pain, but uh, this is probably more worth trying out than the 'bare-metal blargSNES' idea. If there are any coders interested in that, let me know, any help is welcome :)

do you know if chip games will only be playable on the NEW 3ds or is it too early to tell? I'm still waiting for me so smrpg lol I'm being as patient as possible

Yeah I agree that was crap :)

But if everyone would be happy with SNESTYL there would be no arguments left for BlargSNES existence. Why would anyone care about blargSNES then?
What about Snes9x Ex for the iPhone? There are 10x more iPhone users than PSP/3DS and it plays Super FX games full speed. Does that mean BlargSNES shouldn't exist? The reason BlargSNES exists is because Staplebutter chose to port it. There's always a demand/interest for emulators on new hardware.

Some on here use SNES9xtyl as a punching bag in order to compliment BlargSNES. Sometimes it just goes too far. Granted, SNES9xtyl has it's faults (the 1:1 size bothers me more than anything else), but some complaints -- like the PSP d-pad -- make zero sense. The lumpy/clicky/uncomfortable 3DS d-pad is much worse. It's design negatively impacts performance in games like fighters, shmups, or any that require rolling manuevers.

Because using a physical controller is kinda an important factor when playing SNES games.

The point is that a Snes emulator already existing for one format doesn't mean making one for another format is pointless. They're completely different formats with different scenes, developers and users.

I like Snes9xTYL on the PSP. I like blargsnes on the 3DS. blargsnes is probably in a better state in terms if speed, but it seems a but redundant to compare them, or say that one makes the other unnecessary.

The problem with Snes9xTYL is the grossly inaccurate sound, it is not accurate at all whereas the one on 3DS is, the sound is likened to Zsnes on the PSP, many, including myself, attest to this and can provide empirical evidence. When sound emulation is utter shite, it ruins the experience.

Valid point -- had it been made 8 years ago.

iPhone controller attachments are a dime a dozen now. Here's one for under $10 that attaches to a PS3 dualshock:

Compatibility is far more important than sound accuracy. I've seen countless examples of gamers using emulators without sound, but have yet to see one playing a game that doesn't load.
