He dumped it from RAM, not from the eshop files directly. If you apply the ips patch to a rom you'll get the proper rom dump.

Well, I played the game a little and it seems it works OK as long as we use only 1 save slot.
Whenever we try to save a second one, the savedata will become corrupted and the old save slot will be deleted.
How do you do that? sorry I have not been reading every page? I probably wont know unless someone told me how tbrh :(

I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of this thread. This gif, I believe sums up the purpose better than I can with words.

I think Reecey wants to know how the ROM was extracted. This is how:
* Buy Super Mario Advance (USA) (GBA) (Virtual Console)
* Make a RAM dump while running it.
* Open RAM dump in hex editor and cut out everything apart from the non-dummy ROM.
* Byteswap it (e.g. with Skelux's "Byteswapper")

Obligatory reminder:
There are plenty other VCs that aren't dumped. Please PM me, VinsCool, gamesquest1 or CheatFreak47 (or all of us) if you own a genuine Virtual Console title and you have RAM dumping capabilities.

Not yet!

I still have to figure out how the palette data is stored in the ROM (it's different than Yoshi's Island) so that I can make the Colour restoration. :P
After that is done, THEN it'll be the Ultimate version. xD
Don't forget music restoration, which needs to be done on all four games.

This is the best version of the best Mario game ever created, and Nintendo finally listened and made available some of the best content for it. How perfect is this!!! A huge thank you to the people who worked hard on dumping it and making the patch available. I purchased three cartridges for the purpose of fitting all levels. Not needed anymore! I wonder if the pinout of the rom in the official cartridge will match that of a flash...

Shurely music is a limitation of GBA hardware?
If it was possible on the Final Fantasy games (FF VI, FF V), I don't see why it isn't possible on the SMA games, including correcting pitches, using the proper instruments, etc. Just take a listen to Super Mario advance 2, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

How many other VC titles have changes that are worth dumping for?

In my opinion any with changes are worth dumping. I don't know any specifics though. Some may have censorship, which could be interesting...

I really hope someone could dump the japanese versions of EarthBound Beginnings and EarthBound, known as Mother and Mother 2 in Japan.
From what I and other memebers from Starmen have gathere, those releases have some changes over the original Famicom and Super Famicom releases.

If someone has a japanese Wii U with those two titles, please dump them :P

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
