Microsoft is discontinuing production of the Xbox 360

Xbox360_Console_controller_RHS_34_rgb_Launch2013-No-Kinect.png
After the console has had more than a 10 year run, Microsoft will now be stopping production of the Xbox 360. Microsoft has said that Xbox Live servers will still remain online for the time being, so that players can still access all the features of the console. The Xbox 360 has sold over 80 million units to date.

Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft. And while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us. Which is why we have made the decision to stop manufacturing new Xbox 360 consoles. We will continue to sell existing inventory of Xbox 360 consoles, with availability varying by country.

Didn't they fix Nuts & Bolts?
Errr... well it's improved rather than fixed, still has frame pacing issues - definitely still the worst game out of all the BC ones I've played. Still pretty much unplayable for me.

Xbox 360 ehh... what a machine! I've still got 2 hooked up in the house. And what a pad! Granted it's a bit shit for fighting games but otherwise, you just can't go back...
Difficult to rate it as one of my all time fave consoles - nostalgia always sweeps in when I do that! - but without a doubt the best console of last gen for me (and I also loved the PS3 and Wii)
RIP 360!

Ugh I hate the Xbox. I hate how most of the games on them are available on superior alternative platforms. I hate how they have absolutely no defining features or characteristics to compete with PC, PS3, and Wii.

When I look back on consoles and games of a generation I think: oh Wii, man the nunchuck and wii remote motion control was crazy. Man, PS3 had crazy cool RPGs. Oh PC always got them mods and complex games. Xbox? What do you even remember? I absolutely abhor the idiotic controller. Red rings? Xbox Live? Not even the console's actual features or nothing, literally the content that pushed you furthest from your core Xbox experience. Christ.

Good riddance. Still using my Wii these days but the Xbox barely gets turned on.

Hopefully, Microsoft will use this as a reason to add more games to the Xbox One's 360 Emulator or to at least improve on it (15-20FPS on Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts is not an acceptable framerate for games, especially this one)
one can be wishful though....
nuts & bolts is an unacceptable game.

I mean, the 360 had the Kinect, not that I want to remember that.

I think the 360 was just supposed to be a good, affordable core console. Just a game playing machine. The Wii was underpowered, not everyone wants to play RPGs, and not everyone wants to sink the (perceived) time and investment into making a good gaming rig. So the 360 filled that void. It possibly wasn't supposed to be anything innovative (at that, what do the Xbox One and PS4 do that's so special?), but it was a way for people to play games

Shit, so that's it, the last generation is officially over with, I don't imagine it being long now before Sony follow suit
If the PS2 is any indicator the PS3 has a long production cycle ahead of it.

Funny that this happened the afternoon I decided to install my Xk3y. I guess online play will be more or less safer than before with microsoft shifting all focus to the xbone.

I had a love hate relationship with the 360, it was the first console I had of that generation but over the last four or so years I barely used it. Despite the shitty business models (separate hdd, wifi, HD-DVD, xbox live etc) and of course RROD that I was hit with with my first 360 I guess it still has a place in my heart.

I wont say RIP because that gen definitely outstayed its welcome, but both the 360 and PS3 are definitely iconic and both ushered in great advancements in videogaming and set the standards of what we expect from any consoles of the future.

To put the Wii in even the same league as the PS3 or 360 is crazy, crappy waggle controls that ruined almost all its games aside it had no ambition to it. But hey, fanboys got to blind hate I guess.

MS should be ashamed of the RROD debacle. And even more ashamed that when they were finally forced to address the issue, they returned consoles that red ringed again in weeks... disgusting.

One poor kid electrocuted himself trying to fix his console and there's probably more stories mirroring that. All because MS monsters put profit before safety and quality. Even their first console was a death trap with poorly soldered power point connection.

I will hate you forever MS! criminals!

Not unplugging an electrical appliance from an outlet while you work on it, it's all criminal microsofts fault!

MURDERERS!

By the way you should google the Darwin Awards.

Seriously Xbox One and PS4 seem like carbon copies to me except PS4 actually has a good controller. I feel like if you have a PC, 3DS, and maybe a Wii U you can experience the best of the current generation. I wanna see more exclusives, really.

Actually, I would argue that the Wii had TOO much ambition. Much like the PS Vita. I am fond of Nintendo for wanting to push video gaming into innovative directions unheard of to the mainstream public, but it's like they're building a space station for earth-bound people.
