Question:
I've installed CFW on another PS3 phat using this exploit, and then I installed webman and the fans now start to increase speed gradually (like 20%, 30%, 40% ... 70%)

This is normal right?
Is this dangerous in any way for the PS3? (The loud sound doesn't bother me that much)

This is normal. WebMAN has its own fan management with a lower temperature threshold than the stock system so the fans speed up sooner.

You can disable it in webMAN settings, but I recommend leaving it enabled on a Phat.

So I can play normally leaving the fan that way? It won't damage the PS3?

thanks sj33 and smf

My brain failed me and I actually have a 2104 and a 2504, not 2004 and 2104. I now remember running to a general (mostly food) supermarket to gamble buying a 2504 hoping it was on 3.40, because I figured in a grocery store there wouldn’t be much inventory refresh of ps3s.

Anyway, I like that now any 21xx is hackable without hardware methods (until sony releases 4.83 I guess?). For 25xx, datacode “1A” should be good if I understand correctly.

And yes I too prefer a real ps2 (fmcb + opl) for ps2 stuff...even a dead silent slim ps2 + fmcb + opl loading from a NAS could fit the needs of some.

Sorry to ask again, since it was discussed previously in the thread, but I can't make neither reActPSN nor PSNPatch work. The PAR files are (seemingly) properly installed, since reActPSN changes the name of the "aa" account and PSNPatch tells me they have been installed, but the games refuse to boot up. I still get the "activate this game on PSN" error. I'm using Rebug 4.81. Any idea on how to make things work?

so trying to backup my purchased game library and have already backed up 5 games no problem but Fallout 3; keep getting Warning! Disc authentication failed and operation not allowed when i try to copy the game to hdd0. There is plenty of free space for the operation. ultimately im backing up to ntfs external but am wanting to remove update before the iso is created.

Also, what's the best way to remove duplicate artwork in webman games? I found a way but its tedious... Wondering if theres a faster way?

Thanks guys :)

This is what I opted for as soon as SMB support was added, because the fat ps2 with a hard drive are as noisy as a fat ps3. I do have a slim ps2 sata kit, but unfortunately it's only compatible with the earlier slims. So I need to pick one of those up and they seem to be pretty expensive on ebay here.

In the mean time I live with the odd hickup in a cut scene on some games. I rarely play ps2 games these days anyway.

The chart does seem to imply that 120GB or 250GB is guaranteed safe, 160GB is middling safe, 320GB has a good chance of being safe but is riskiest.

Manufacture date is a MUCH better guide, but the chart does imply that 120GB is a safe bet.

Whats up guys, I had a quick q? Does IrisMan work as the same emulation or do some games work better on it compared to Webman or Multiman? Thx.

Yes I know I should have bought a Slim, but I could only find Fatties, and also, my PS3 had YLoD already before I installed CFW, so if I install CFW on this one and modify the fan speed wouldn't it live longer?
I need to find a good fan configuration though.

Let's just say that I have a brother that played Little Big Planet 2 for 4+ hours everyday

Well I was a bit late with this reply didn’t see any of the posts after yours but you may still find it helpful hah.

Webman has a fan control feature integrated into it, you can just set a max temp and it auto regulates the fans to keep it there

Setting temps at 65 or even 60 will certainly help it to live longer.

If it struggles to keep it there you need new thermal paste - try just on top of the IHSs first but if that doesn’t do it you’ll have to remove them and do underneath as well

None of my BC PS3s run “too hot” with new thermal paste and max temps set in Webman, all can be kept comfortably at 60 without breaking too much of a sweat. Don’t know how that affects YLOD chances vs a slim kept at 60 though.

Simply put no. They run pretty much the same. They both use the same methods for mounting and running games. However you may find that Cobra can break certain games as I certainly have. Though that was a few versions back to say the least.... if you find a problematic game while using cobra try either disabling cobra (rebug will let you toggle it) or installing a non cobra CFW and seeing if the issue persists. Of it does the game dump is likely bad. Find/make a new copy. You may also find some games work with cobra that don't work without.

So after reinstalling cfw (due to softlocking the previous time) im on rebug 4.81. Is There a way to update my system without losing cfw? I barely modded my system a few days ago with the new method so i dont know how to go about this.

Just transfer the game using another USB. Open multiman press start and select together to open the file browser and then you can copy from external USB to internal.

Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option

True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree

I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups

I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
