I'm not saying it wasn't a bad thing, but the morals aren't quite the same as punching a bank teller and running with $200k as it is sneaking a bit of code and submitting it on the down low. Theft is theft, but it's far more easier to do and has less consequence when you're just a face online.
Yeah ofc it is easier but it's just as bad. Robbing an old lady on the street is way easier than robbing a bank, but it's just as bad (if not arguably WORSE)

I hope you joking, would you like to someone take all your money?? Super dick move I hope the person that found the bug gets the deserved money, and for Kate she should be ashamed and burn in hell.

No I'm not joking. I would do it without second thought if I was in their position.

At least we can always count on SciresM to develop CFWs and crack 3DS without getting involved in drama (and Reisyukaku for making ReiNAND, boginstaller, and soon-to-be ReiNX)

Ironic how it was no one other than SciresM who dropped the bomb

You should stop to look at HackerOne submissions from time to time. You'll be surprised to see some familiar names.

Things change, and White Hatting is very, very lucrative.

Anyone know if she submitted it to Ninty or someone else?
Because some say nothing got disclosed to Nintendo and only to Nvidia

If it's the latter, then it's just dramatic bullshit.

However, it sounds like the bug bounty from Nintendo. So, who knows... Ugh

Most people have morals or at the very least enough of a heart to give the person who deserves it SOME of the 200k you stole from them.

Not that I agree or disagree with what kate did but morals are subjective and each person can have different morals. To kate maybe doing this is within her moral spectrum, to you it might not be.

This is why some stuff in different cultures is frowned upon by us, meanwhile they view it as something that is moral.

Also we need to point out that this was not Fusee Gelee (she discovered that) this is a new bootrom exploit that could potentially have given us a entrypoint on Mariko and the new patched units:

That fact actually makes it even worse. She stopped us as users from getting homebrew on newer units for money.

If its coming out just as these units with the patch are also coming out, I suspect we might have had two birds with one stone get killed.

No I wouldn't. Those are not similar at all to merely losing an online personality as describer by Chary.
You're still stealing money. We're not talking about consequences, we're talking about actions. Stealing 200k from someone just because no consequences will come directly is still stealing 200k, and still VERY WRONG. I really hope some kind of legal action comes out of this and the person who deserves the 200k gets it.

The irony is that she disclosed the bootrom exploit to Nvidia because she was trying to act morally superior to TX when in reality she was never morally superior to begin with xD

Not only did she steal 200k from someone, she also prevented further work and progress in the scene for a quick buck.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
