Nintendo officially confirms Switch successor console, announces Nintendo Direct for next month

nitennzomg.png

While rumors had been floating about rampantly as to the future plans of Nintendo, the President of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025). In the same message, Furukawa also announced that a Nintendo Direct is on the way sometime in June--though it will focus solely on latter-half 2024 Nintendo Switch titles, and will not feature any information regarding the successor system.

Current rumor reports state that a "Nintendo Switch 2" system was scheduled to be released around holiday 2024, though the hardware was delayed internally, to make sure that the upcoming system had as many quality launch titles as possible. Bloomberg has reported that Nintendo has been supplied with a notable amount of 8-inch Foxconn LCD screens, implying that the new Nintendo hardware may be very similar to the Nintendo Switch.

Don't care. As I said, I'm voting with my wallet and I have the sinking feeling that Switch 2 will already be technologically outdated by the time it's out.

Watch as whatever this "successor" is, there will be emulation (and arguably softmods) for it that learns absolutely nothing about how to keep thier ass out of Nintendo's Lealease Eye of Sauran like Yuzu did

My wishes are:
Better controllers with Hall sensing joysticks.
Hall sensing L and R like Xbox controllers.
A Dock with Ethernet (I know the OLED dock has it.)
M.2 Slot for really fast storage.
A cool OS like the 3DS was with themes and musics.
Nvidia again with full backwards compatibility, and with a flaw for future CFW lol.
DLSS!!
Official browser.
Support for video and audio files.
At least ps4/xbox one power.

If the emulation group can keep a tight lid on emulating brand new games and wait on public or paid release for them, then they'll avoid one of Yuzu's larger blunders. But they could still be docked for circumventing technological measures built into the console to play encrypted games on non-encrypted devices; being able to emulate anything from the new console is cause for a lawsuit.

So here is the time where people get upset as Nintendo for not matching their leaks. Which I find funny. It's like people being upset the console is likely not launching this year when Nintendo never even mentioned any plans to do it anyways lol.

It also heavily comes down to security of this new system. On a software level they really strengthened their security with the Switch. Like if it wasnt for the RCM exploit we would be fucked lol.

Skip (no matter how good it would be), I still have over 200 games on my Switch to play. Besides, I'm not planning on giving even a cent more to Nintendo :yayswitch: ever again.
True the Switch has a lot, but I'd only use it for its exclusives and not much else.

Not expecting the next Switch to be very exciting, anyway.

This thread is a perfect example of everything I hate about GBATemp...

We're finally getting new hardware. We're getting more powerful stuff, something EVERYONE has been wanting, and the first thing everyone does is complain. If you don't like weak hardware, go play your PS5 Pro/Xbox Series X/PC. If you don't like Nintendo, don't buy their games/hardware. Let us have this.

Beat me to it. Barring another miracle we could be out of luck for softmodding.

Everyone? I've read that various fans are fine with Switch as it is so for them it could last for a little longer.

Not sure who that "us" is. Nintendo has disappointed me and others many times... And where the f*ck is Metroid Prime 4. 🤬

I want to believe this is satire but it blends in too well.
It's my honest opinion of BotW and TotK - they are nothing like Legend of Zelda games of old, and they're different for the sake of being different rather than improving on the classic formula.
I played through both games once, using an online map to find everything, and I heartily regret wasting my valuable time doing so.

I wish I could see why these two abominations are so beloved; I really do wish that. But I can't see that, as they're not what I want from a Legend of Zelda game.
