Nintendo officially confirms Switch successor console, announces Nintendo Direct for next month

While rumors had been floating about rampantly as to the future plans of Nintendo, the President of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025). In the same message, Furukawa also announced that a Nintendo Direct is on the way sometime in June--though it will focus solely on latter-half 2024 Nintendo Switch titles, and will not feature any information regarding the successor system.

Current rumor reports state that a "Nintendo Switch 2" system was scheduled to be released around holiday 2024, though the hardware was delayed internally, to make sure that the upcoming system had as many quality launch titles as possible. Bloomberg has reported that Nintendo has been supplied with a notable amount of 8-inch Foxconn LCD screens, implying that the new Nintendo hardware may be very similar to the Nintendo Switch.

No I see a lot of things clearly and things are shit all around in the industry. Nintendo is no longer Nintendo. That company is much more than their IPs. Nintendo used to have character. That character is gone and the company has no soul. Enjoy modern garbage if you want. I feel sad for you if you never had the chance to experience Nintendo when they were actually good. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Happy people are just happy because of who they are. It's wasn't Nintendo changed ( of course Nintendo did change but that is not the cause ) that cause your dissatisfaction. There are more satisfied customer than ever before, it is the only reason why they are so successful and don't want to screw up by taking risk.

If you make something and have customer don't for a moment think that you know why they like your product, the truth is you can't really know why, you can only know that they like it and what you think may be better may not be actually better for the customer. Nintendo don't have a clue why some product sell and some don't, else they would only be making hits all the time.

When did we become so afraid of risk? Where are the pioneers, the artists, the free thinkers and the true believers? What happened that made the younger members of this community so afraid to think and believe and exist outside the box? God dammit THIS IS THE GAMING INDUSTRY! Wake up! As a famous star ship captain once said: risk IS our business.

"Moar graphics" is no longer enough! It's time to take a risk. We need innovation and creativity not regurgitation of AAA slop. The same slop that's so damn costly, we're seeing layoffs left and right. This far, no further. The industry either takes that next step into more inventive forms of play or we die here, a former shell of what the industry used to mean. I know some of you missed the more pioneering days of gaming where it was easy to see the technical leaps but there are more leaps around the corner. We just need to stop staying within this bubble we created and start looking outside. We no longer have the time to sit around and be risk adverse.

So you're just a party pooper? If I said it's a beautiful day outside you'd argue with me because every day should be beautiful and we shouldn't be constrained to comparing each day to another.
Don't buy the new Nintendo console, leave it for me. They won't care. And it won't be 3D capable you weirdo.

You're a weirdo for not answering questions with direct answers, going off on seemingly unrelated and ethereal tangents, then redirecting and blaming someone (in this case 'this world') which isn't going to care nor change. Still holding your ground on getting 3D because you want it, despite it being abandoned and mostly forgotten years ago with little chance of returning, is just the icing on the cake. That's like saying you want a banana but it really should taste like an apple, because you like apples. If you want a 3DS then the Switch successor isn't for you. Go buy a used 3DS and be happy all day long, if that's even possible for you anymore.

The funniest thing is we haven't even seen the console yet. Y'all are saying "it's gonna be another under powered tablet from 5 years ago" and "the joycons are gonna suck again" and "it'll have no soul" and all sorts of stupid stuff. We barely know anything about it.

Look at the size for the GPU on the M4. Apple never stop trying to become Nintendo by having better hardware. Now they just need to invent game controller and do some study about how people actually play game on a handheld.

Until June, we'll have even more rumors about what's going to be crossgen or not. Already we're wondering if we will see Metroid Prime 4 or not.

If it's not showed in June, does that mean it's going to be an exclusive for the Switch 2 ? 🤨

I see where you are coming from. I don't know if I can say they lost « all » their soul when I see games like ToTK for example. There's character in such games to me.
But idk, the last example that I got reminded of what Switch sports, and yeah it's soulless.

But they still have teams that are able to put up great pieces of art. I mean, Mario Wonder is fantastic, and at the time they were still releasing a fking New Super Mario Bros every time they had the chance so I guess we're just nostalgic, it's in the human nature of seeing the worst right now while remembering the best.

I do feel like the Miis actually had a lot of character tho. Idk why they've been put aside like that, alongside the fact that the shop doesn't have music ... I know it's been a debate already and that some people don't care, but idk. It's part of the stuff I remember about the Wii, the DSi, the 3DS ... Not just the games but the console itself and the Switch doesn't have much.
