I am failing math and science with little chance to advance into 10th grade. The math teacher said this:
Just want you to know what a wonderful young man you have in Michael. I have enjoyed getting to know him this year. He has however, as you know, really struggled with the material in Algebra this year. He has come very far in what he understands, but there is a still a deficit in his knowledge of the subject. To be honest, I don't think he will make it through the class. If there is even the remotest chance of him pass this course, he will have to work very hard for the rest of the year and then do well on the Regents exam in June.
What do I do?Ive never failed a grade before. My parents will be very dissopointed in me.Ive been to summer school before but ive never acually had to repeat a grade.I am good at many things but math isnt one of them.I ve also gotten some extra help but it really doesnt help much.Tommorow I have a test but i dont have a clue on how to do it.Please help me out.Thank you.And sorry about any mistakes

the best thing you could do at this point is try to learn it online, ask a friend for help, or get a tutor(which can be quite expensive). There are some great websites for learning geometry and algebra, you've just got to look for them. I've helped classmates in the past with algebra, maybe one would be willing to help you?

Study? Do your homework? There's no magic trick to becoming good at math. A huge part of Math is just memorization, specifically formulas. The rest is the knowledge to know which parts of the equation fit into each part of the formula. Both are achieved through repetition. Studying, doing homework, and extra problems. There's nothing we can do online (short of tutoring you through Skype) to help you apart from giving the advice I just did.

You have a test tomorrow, so you should probably study up on whatever you have to. I'm in 9th grade like you are, and I took Algebra 1 last year. I can help you study whatever you want. If you're from D.C, talking with you at a decent time shouldn't be much of a problem as we're in the same country. PM me if you want to. So finally, study what you can, try to do decent on your test. I'll help you out if you want me to. Good luck!

I don't normally sign into the site but I read this and could see myself in this situation. While grade 9 was 14 years ago (or so) for me, I failed my math class for very similar reasons. I understood most of the content with zero issues but there were a few concepts I just wasn't getting and I knew I wasn't getting it.

My first words would be don't panic and openly speak to your parents about your troubles. Knowing where your troubles are and talking about them honestly is . Sure, parents don't want their kids to fail and maybe there will be some disappointment but it is only temporary.

Next part is don't be afraid to repeat a class once or going to summer school. In my case, I was doing an academic grade 9 math and failed it. I took the applied grade 9 the next semester and then did summer school to get my academic credit. I had zero issues the second time around and I feel the reason was is that it was explained differently to me the second time. Sometimes its a matter of perspective and how you think about a topic. Try thinking about the topics in different ways rather than forcing yourself to see it how the teacher wants you to. Oddly enough, I even went to Wikipedia once or twice on some topics. I had a moment where I had issues with Matrices and I used Wikipedia to fill in the gap of what I was having a hard time wrapping my head around.

Ignore what your teachers or parents say about how you should be learning the material. Just go online. Learn the material from Khan Academy or similar. Check your answers with Calculator Soup. Its 100% accurate and 500x times faster than a teacher. I learnt 75% of everything I know from the internet, and I have some of the best grades in my entire school. Give it a shot. Learn in the way that's easiest for you, and you're sure to succeed!

Just remember that Math is about USING YOUR BRAIN. In my school experience, just listen attentively on Math Class and analyze what they are blabbering, and do not memorize, save memorization at night. This is the most mistake that people do since math is never about memorization but about using your brain.
And do not rely just about the teacher, search other sources. Think if this: The teacher gives the solution in Problem#1, but in reality there are lots and easier solutions that can solve Problem#1 other than the solution that the teacher gave, so looking for other solutions suitable for you is the best.

And lastly Math is about breaking the pieces. Simplify all given problems as possible, and If you cannot understand problems pretty well, dictate it in your brain word by word slowly.
I hope this helps

If you can get yourself to use the computer as a learning tool and not just something to screw around on, I strongly urge you to check out https://www.khanacademy.org. The videos there are quite well made and immensely useful. I went from hardly having a hope of passing my third attempt at Calc 1 in college to passing, barely, with a C, having studied from this site. It's not for everyone but it's worth a shot.

If you are not making the grade in any subject its because you have failed to understand the material.

I am not saying YOU have failed. There is a difference.

With math, if you don't understand it, you will be found wanting sooner or later.

Math is a core subject in life and important for many real world jobs. Don't miss out on the joy it can bring in mastering it.

Get remedial math tuition by someone who is experienced in teaching and math. These people are like gold.

Don't and I say DONT attempt to teach yourself. You seems to have missed some foundational aspects which need to be reinstalled.

Remember math is logical. If you don't get it, it is because the logic is not apparent to you.

Just like any complex subject, it needs a lengthy apprenticeship. Its not meant to be easy. You are meant to get better at it and grow.

Uh I've never had that problem 'cause my father is a math teacher. But I remember failing at Literature when when it was a non-opcional subject just because I didn't like it. My advice would be:
1.- Understand the concept.
2.- See how the teacher has solved the typical exams exercises. And understand the process, if you don't understand it just memorize the way solve it (I wouldn't advice this but you have your test tomorrow)
