Is it actually possible to unlock a iphone that has icloud-locked by paying money online to these sites that claim that in 72 hours they can release the lock?

Majority would be. Either directly stolen or purchased online from someone who stole it.
If someone legitimately purchased it and accidentally iCloud locked it, they would best off taking it to Apple with proof of purchase/ownership and see what they can do.

I hear Apple refuses to remove activation lock regardless of your situation.

Interesting, I've also heard them unlock after purchasing a locked one online. I guess you'd be best off contacting them to see what they can do.

If its in lost/stolen mode and it shows the first character of the email address, the possibility is about 50-50.

What these services do is spam send email to ANY email that starts with the character; e.g if your email address is [email protected] it will show as t********@*****.***
They will use some sort of brute force tool to send fake ''Apple found your stolen/lost iPhone'' mail which will require you to login, if the person falls for it, whoever launched that tool will now have the email address and password, giving them to you for even a more expensive price (you pay twice actually, its usually 20 bucks for the first step which can't be refunded and the second step which is about 70 or even 100 bucks)

There's no guarantee tho, like I said 50-50% chance.

EDIT: My iCloud email starts with b and I have received these spam ''activation'' emails before, needless to say since that I don't have any iPhones that got stolen or lost I did not fall for this scam.

They do, provided that you give them the original receipt of the phone.

nah its not legit, they just use methods you could do yourself. take unlocking iphones through AT&T for example, its as simple as paying for the phone, then filling out an online form (and connecting phone to itunes). you will find lots of sellers offering this same service.

Your options (assuming its not your phone/acquired from someone else and you stumbled across lock when resetting data)
1. Walk the person through accessing their iCloud account (and you will need password) and follow on screen instructions from phone
2. If you have access to a machine that took backups locally via iTunes (User\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ ||||| ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/), you can easily nab most passwords and try them (with software ofc)
3. Pull the NAND and remove the lock manually

Personal experience for me at least.... I'm a hot ticket for dead people apparently

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
