Hi, I was actually wondering something, does an homebrew similar to riivolution on Wii exists on PS3 ? an homebrew that allows to live patch a game without a need to use an iso directly on cd by redirecting calls that load data to an external medium such as an SD or USB ?

and if not, do you think homebrews SDKs could allow this kind of thing via HEN ? Since I do know C++ I would be interested into maybe making one

there are some rtm tools for the ps3 (google them). I don't know how they work though, because I don't use them.
i checked what it is online it doesn't seem at all to be what i'm talking about. I am not talking about modifying game values from a pc like cheat engine, i'm talking about an equivalent to RIIVOLUTION on wii

that's an example of what riivolution is :

it both allows to load cheats for games and allows to replace files from the game disc in real time with files from an sd or usb
it basically redirects calls to the file load function of the wii to instead when it exists load a file from the sd card/usb instead

I know of no such homebrew. you might ask on psx place. though I've been in the ps3 scene for years, I haven't really messed with the ps3 stuff for years, moved on to the ps4 mostly.

I'm thinking about developping an homebrew like this since it doesn't seem to exist, i asked to people on various places and nobody seemed to know about it

the only complex part will be to figure out the way i'll detour the system function loading files since i don't know if there's a way to detour system calls on ps3 from an homebrew

There's homebrew plugin - repatch - for PS Vita doing sort of the same stuff as RIIVOLUTION, if I've understood what you're after right. Dunno if it's applicable for PS3 on system level but it might be one starting point for research, implementing it as CFW plugin .

I only own a super-slim ps3 so it's only doable as a homebrew that can be loaded through HEN
it won't be able to run as a cfw plugin but it should be able to run as a homebrew, detour the function of the OS in memory then start the game

You might want to ask this on PSX-place as well, devs behind HEN and CFW tend to hang out in there as does other folks knowledgeable on PS3 programming.

//EDIT
I'd probably would like to see a tool like this on PS3 (all the ones I own are CFW's though.)
Been using PSV repatch a lot for fan translations and such and having the original game untouched while patch resides elsewhere would be nice thing to have.

I actually was able to get a fat ps3 from my sister so I got cfw on it, so if i can't do it through standard homebrew i'll do it as a cfw plugin
I'll first try as standard homebrew tho
