Sci-fi open world RPG title ELEX II launches today on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and the Xbox Series S/X. For the occasion, a brand-new trailer was released:

ELEX II is the sequel to ELEX, the vintage open-world role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic and Risen series, Piranha Bytes. ELEX II returns to the post-apocalyptic Science Fantasy world of Magalan, with massive environments that can be explored with unrivaled freedom via jetpack – you will be able to move through the epic story any way you want!

Several years after Jax defeated the Hybrid, a new threat arrives from the sky, unleashing the dangerous powers of dark Elex and endangering all life on the planet. In order to defend the peace on Magalan and the safety of his own family, Jax embarks on a mission to convince the factions to unite against the invaders, as well as a personal quest to find his son, Dex, who got separated from him …

Dive into a huge, hand-crafted, completely unique world with multiple factions and diverse environments set in a post-apocalyptic science fantasy universe.

Key features of ELEX II include:
  • explore the planet of Magalan with unprecedented freedom, using your trusted jetpack to traverse the map and even fly!
  • interact with a lived-in world, full of unique NPCs, who...
  • ...will remember what you’ve done and react accordingly
  • ...will join or leave your group depending on how you behave
  • ...are able to be killed, which will have an effect on the story
  • engage in fluid close and ranged combat with a massively improved control system
  • experience a story where your actions have consequences, immersing you in a world of moral decisions
Be sure to keep an eye out for our official review of the game!

the only "bad" thing about piranhabytes games that the translations sucks

its like the witcher series those games are best to play in their native languages

for instance gothic 1 english translation has lost all the "german" charm what make gothic so special

In traditional Pyranha bytes fashion the combat system sucks. Playing Risen through backwards compatibility and Elex 2 back to back on my XSX is a night and day difference. So far i am having more fun with it than problems, seems like a okay upgrade from first Elex, unlike what Risen 2 and 3 were to Risen 1.

because this was another over hyped game and it's failing already. that's why it's funny
People barely know it exists, how is it overhyped.
Pretty sure outside Germany, Poland and Russia nobody even knows what a Risen/Elex or Pyranha bytes is and gothic is only mentioned as that one PC game that was pretty good 20 years ago.

Overhyped? As has been stated, few have ever heard of this. Or the first one for that matter. And why are someone else's failures funny to you? Like I said. Weird.

I don't know if it's really that overhyped, I've literally just heard of this game today. But I guess I don't really follow AAA gaming news these days because 9 times out of 10, the games just end up being another boring open-world game with a slight twist to make them slightly different from every other open-world game.

Seems the launch was rushed, ppl are having technical issues thus why the reviews are so bad compared to previous game.
I would hold off til the first patch before giving this one a try.
Don't see why it wouldn't be at least as good as the first game once they patch a few things.

Looks like that's the consensus and the game is doing a fraction of the business the previous one was doing at launch. So it's not looking like we'll be getting ELEX III...

ELEX is something I'd play portably and probably leave unfinished once I'm sick of it - and I'm a fan of these kinds of games. Just never grabbed me.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
