Ahem....goodness gracious....it wasn't my intent to cause such havoc on GBAtemp with my previous blog post. It's one of the reasons I'm such an introverted person in real life, I tend to piss people off with my comments, even with comments I considered innocuous at the time. Apparently, that tendency bleeds into my forum posts occasionally, no matter how much I try not to do so. I guess I was a little too...I don't know...ardent....with the way I worded that blog? Tact was never my strong-point. Fine lines elude me frequently. Being a bit inebriated when I wrote it didn't help either.....lessened inhibitions and all that. Geez, I didn't mean to open such a can-of-worms like I evidently did. I feel I must apologize to the staff, and to members, for pissing so many people off and creating so much animosity. I honestly didn't have that intent when I wrote that blog. At least, not the animosity you guys seemed to have garnered from it.
Of course, the blog post I'm referring to is this one:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=299...p;#entry3746448
My intent was to try and make some of the more flagrant members of this forum aware that they are displaying disturbing behavior to a vast majority of the members, most of which are of a young and impressionable age. I intentionally didn't include gays in the blog (other than my "not guys" comment) because of political correctness. Gay people officially have rights in many places now and are to be tolerated, though I'd rather not hear about their exploits either. But furry's, on the other hand, are still considered aberrant behavior by most common standards of morality. From the many things I've read around the net about "furry" culture, it DOES have sexual connotations that suggests a form of bestiality to many people, whether that be the particular definition of the word "furry" you adhere to or not, that is the general definition most people think of when they hear the term being used. I find that kind of stuff very disturbing and it has no place in a video game forum, IMO.
I consider a person dressing up as an animal (furry), for whatever nefarious purposes, quite different from an animal being portrayed as a person (personification). The failure of many members to see that distinction was annoying me, especially in the Solatorobo release thread. I just finally snapped and wrote that blog to bitch about it without thinking about the upset it might cause. I'll admit, I got a little too fervent about my feelings on the matter. I'm really sorry about that. The MOST disturbing thing to me is just how many members don't understand the distinction between "furry" and "personification". I can only conclude that is because they have been over-exposed to an improper context in places such as GBAtemp, though this place is not exclusive to that confusion by any means.
Why do so many people take what I write in a forum so seriously anyway? Other people say dangerous things around here all the time and members just laugh about it and make jokes, but when I have an opinion or say something a little risqué, or attempt to instill a bit of morality around here, people get all upset and bent-out-of-shape and then good people like Rydian end up fearing (Fearing? Really?) the community they were so much in love with before and decide to leave. I don't hate Rydian, nor do I want him to leave our community, I just wish he'd not promote the furry talk so much, you know? But he was only one of the people that do it, I was not targeting him. I DID say in that blog that I didn't mean to offend and that I was NOT targeting anyone directly. (re-read it if you must, I didn't edit it at all) Selective reading much? Obviously, the distinction between hate and disgust was misconstrued too. Just because some of the things discussed disgust me, doesn't mean I hate those people that brought the offending material up, just that they need to tone it down a bit so as not to offend people that don't want to know about or hear about such things.
Be honest, how do you guys really perceive me? How does the Staff perceive me? Do I come off as an asshole? Do I seem outrageous or insane or something? Why do my posts hold so much sway and cause such a stir around here? What the hell did I do to create such notoriety and importance for the things I rant about? Is this blog going to cause mayhem too? That was never my objective, only to raise awareness.
I'm not going anywhere, I'm not quitting GBAtemp. Relax and have fun, but don't go overboard, that's all I meant. Geez people, relax mmkay?
And Rydian, don't leave because of my insignificant ramblings. I don't hate you and you have no reason to "fear" me for anything.....if that's what you were even talking about. You can't be pissed because I ignored your PM, can you? I ignore most people's PM's, don't take it personally. I AM capable of reading comprehension and saw that you said you came to this decision over a month ago....I hope I didn't push you over the edge.
Off the topic of my blog:
Holy crap! The tune "Unnatural Selection" by Ayreon is seriously kicking my ass right now. Damn! That's a kickass tune! In a obscure way, it seems almost relevant, in an imaginative and sort of twisted way.
Damn! That tunes gives me goosebumps. Oddly coincidental that it is playing as I write this blog. Horribly beautiful, or beautifully horrible, depending on your viewpoint. Wow! Just wow! Chilling. Chilling indeed!
