You'll find me getting passionate like this any time people are scapegoating, 'cause I cannot STAND scapegoating. Scapegoating does not actually fix the problem.

Let's say some people have their computers crash.
Person A just blames it on Vista.
Person B investigates the crash, finds the issue, and fixes it.
Guess who has a fixed computer, and guess who still has a crashing computer...

Also, the one iPhone jailbreak of his I tried (blackra1n) resulted in about 8-9 system restore until it decided to actually WORK as it's suppose to. Kid's no genius, iDevices has been jailbroken before he came, and will be long after everyone forgets about him.

He means for the end user, not for the actual hacker, I think. i.e. any randomer can just download a program, click one button and have a jailbroken iDevice. A little ridiculous when you remember that HE made very simple jailbreak apps like this (e.g. blackra1n) and asked for donations because they are so simple to use.

What he is saying is that if it was a little more difficult, n00bs wouldn't be interested, and so wouldn't plague devs like him with pointless questions.

Having never owned any of the devices he worked on, I am reasonably indifferent about him. Although I will say that he should perhaps have waited until something useful was actually possible using his PS3 hack before releasing it, perhaps formed a sort of "PS3 DevTeam" or whatever, worked quietly behind the scenes instead of seeking so much fame. But there's no doubt that he was a decent hacker, and did some good work. Although you'd think someone clever enough to make said hacks would realise people will demand stuff of him...

No it's not the same situation at all. Dark_Alex released something great that is still used today, while geohot released something useless that got OtherOS removed and nothing else. Sure it was Sony making the decision on that but it was fairly predictable and no excuse for releasing it when he must have an a good idea it would come to no end result. And i don't remember anyone saying those things about DA either, everyone knew he did the actual work. Only people causing trouble with him were the idiots at ps3news.

It is only useless to a casual user. Dark Alex had and has plenty of haters maybe you should read more comments on articles. Also geohot did more than ps3. Sony is just using him as a scapegoat like they use piracy for the psp.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. That's my initial reaction to your post. Now to elaborate a bit.
Yes, Geohot wasn't FORCING Sony to remove OtherOS. But guess what. Sony never would've removed OtherOS on it's own incentive if Geohot wouldn't pine for his 15 minutes of fame with an exploit that still has no use at all to any normal users. In the end, everyone with a PS3 lost a major feature of their machine because some attention-seeking prick couldn't keep his mouth shut about his useless hack.
On the flipside, he didn't really give anything to the community that OTHERS DIDN'T DO AS WELL. He never delivered his untethered jailbreak he's been mouthing about since LAST YEAR, and then he (most likely, judging by the following events) faked a 4G jailbreak. Why would ANYONE white-knight for him? Unlike Dark_Alex, who basically single handedly ran the PSP homebrew scene for YEARS, he did NOTHING worth mentioning in the end.

By the way, I don't personally hate the guy, even if he is a legitimate dick, I hate all those fanboys who think we should be fawning over him like some golden god, and he quit the scene because we are unworthy of his greatness.
