The Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft will be getting a major update soon, which will allow for online crossplay with Minecraft players on Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android. Titled the Bedrock Edition, it'll be a free update to those who already own the game, and it'll also be packaged and sold on store shelves as well. The update will also add smaller features such as an internal achievements system like the other platforms currently have, and the ability to make ingame purchases on the Minecraft Marketplace, where players can buy skins or texture packs. The update will go live on June 21.

Mac and Linux are still stuck with Java Edition and probably will be like this forever (there's a workaround IIRC).
I don't mind, since Java Edition is the obvious superior choice.

Tbh I already expected something soon considering the ReSwitched discord picked up 2 bedrock title changes (addition and an update). The naming of just Minecraft (instead of switch edition) made it quite obvious :/

I actually like vanilla Minecraft and have played some of bedrock on Windows 10, and it's pretty good IMO. Paid mods and such do strike me the wrong way, but crossplay is plenty cool.

The main issue with Windows 10 is that it isn't what people are used to, so it's ruled off as bad.
