That crack is and isn't bad.

At least the crack isn't on the screen area itself. So it doesn't get in the way of viewing. But oly shit, that's a bad crack

Tagzard, you know what I am getting from your whole thread?

"Oh, I crashed my car into a tree because I was a drunk moron last night. Infiniti had better give me a new one! It's not like it's my fault I was drunk, or that I bought the car in the first place, or that I was driving it!"

You know what I get from all of your posts? You act like a self entitled asshole, which is something I can't fucking stand in people. You also come off like you're a very VERY young child. You act like nobody else matters, only yourself. You're one of the few people who really tick me off around here -_-

Because, you know, it's not like anyone else has to save up $225 USD - $295 USD when they break their iPods.

If I were to break it, I would open the ipod itself and de-solder the connector from the home button to the motherboard (or atleast loosen the connection so it no longer works) That would be the best bet, cause then it would look like bad soldering on their part and they should replace it.

They may catch onto you though, and even if you send it in like that they may just fix the button and leave the screen cracked.

Knowing apple though they'll just replace it, they did when I had problems with my mac book air, they moved the hard drive to the replacement and just gave me a new machine (bar the hard drive) and that was for a faulty keyboard

Im not sure if the home button is soldered on, it was just a guess, usually (and im going from controllers etc) theres usually a pressure pad that pushes onto a connector on a mini motherboard, if you just remove the pressure pad (or move it slightly so it doesnt connect properly) that should do you well
I was thinking more along the lines of not opening my ipod.

But you're willing to do everything else to break it?

It's a $20 part...

Resorting to something that could literally land you in jail over something that is so easy to replace is just plain stupid.

Go to amazon and order your screen before you really screw your life up.

Y'know, in Sweden, we have such a thing called the iCafé. They actually do casemods and repairs for real cheap. Check if they don't have something similar in your area, Taggy.

Also, lay off your shit on Mr. KirbyBoy, because he has a quite valid argument, and it's not a good time to be ignorant when trying to pull off fraud on a company.

Hell, much as I dislike you Tagzard I'll even through you a bone here.

http://www.amazon.com/Touch-4th-Gen-Replac...r/dp/B004GIVNFI - $27.01 - Digitizer only

http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Repair-D...y/dp/B0050MW0RE - $30.23 - Entire assembly.

He doesnt want it fixed he wants a replacement, I gave him advice earlier on how to break his home button by opening the ipod but opening the ipod itself was out of the question, which leads me to believe that he doesnt have the technical skills to do a replacement himself.

And to counter the flamming Im sure to recieve for telling him how to break his home button, I don't condone it and I'm sure its some kinda fraud, all I done was answer the question, its not for me to judge how people lead their lives

Good luck at the Apple store
My co-worker had a pretty much identical thing happen to her iPhone4 and she's getting a replacement for free. This may be just for the iPhone warranties though since Apple makes a killing on those things so 1 free replacement isn't so bad. Especially when they can fix the phone and resell it. iPod might be different but I'd say Tag's in with a chance of getting it replaced for free if he's nice and the assistant's in a good mood.

That or he's a bigger child than I thought and he doesn't want an iPod that's been repaired, he wants a brand new unopened one.

Also: At all the people saying he'd go to jail over this. They'd never do that. Seriously, the amount of claims a company gets on returns that are fraudulent are huge. Before you get a warranty replacement someone needs to look at it and say whether its had any obvious damage to it that would invalidate the warranty. If there is something it will just be sent/given back to the customer saying that the damage was not covered by warranty and it will cost £XXX to repair.
I understand that lying to them is fraud but its too much hassle to prosecute every single one and definitely not worth it. Fraud would only be prosecuted if it was a huge claim, say for a damaged shipment of iPods, not a single damaged iPod.

You're hilarious.

I do, however, have a fool proof method to getting a new iPod.

Go to the Apple store, and tell them you want to buy an iPod Touch. Then give them money and leave with your new iPod Touch. And this time be careful with our possessions and don't bloody break it.

Then buy a new one. Midna's way makes sense, with the only downside being that Apple gets more money.

Warranties cover hardware defects not accidental damage. You're thinking of insurance.

Example of hardware defect: One day your iPod stops responding to touch. You have not dropped or done any damage to the iPod yourself. The touchscreen was defective and only lasted a few months before giving out.

Since the free Apple Care doesn't cover damage that was your fault. So, if you drop it and crack a screen, you're shit out of luck.

Or, if you do have a real issue, but your water sensors are tripped, you're also outta luck.

Ah ha ha I don't think warranty covers smashing your on damn iPod on a stone floor. My family has an iPhone and an iPod Touch, and I have an iPod Touch. Not a scratch on them. The key here is...

...to not break your things.
